Braveland Wizard is the sequel to the first Braveland that our Samsai took a look at last year. The first game had a lot of positive reviews, and it seems the second is doing well too.

Developer Issues
Some reviews note that the game has the same problems as the first game (noted below), and a more severe issue is that the developers tried to delete a bad review when it was the only review on there. Reading more into it, it seems the developers flagged the review for the Steam moderators as "off-topic" as it had technical details of a bug, but the same guy still has a bad review up, so it seems Steam sided with the reviewer.

You can see a screen-shot of the review the developers flagged.

That above doesn't fill me with the need to buy this game. Developers who try to hide technical issues from reviews are bad bad bad. They always get found out too, so it surprises me that people still think they can hide issues.

Hopefully this will be an isolated incident.

Game Issues
The main problem with the game from certain reviewers is that there isn't much actual strategy to it, and that's quite odd for a strategy game. This is something Samsai noted in his review of the first game too.

Other than the luck of major strategy, it does seem like a reasonably good title.

About the game
The same old school turn-based strategy game is back - welcome to Braveland Wizard! The graduate of the Academy of Magic is ready for new adventures. Her journey begins high in the mountains and passes through the southern lands, populated by orcs, ghosts, and mysterious nomads.

- New hero - Wizard
- An entire set of unique battles with unexpected surprises
- Dungeons for random battles and worthy rewards
- Piles of stylish artifacts
- Three schools of pure battle magic
- A talent tree that changes the nature of battle
- A brave team of combat allies: monk, ice archer, elementalist, and many more
- A hand-drawn game world with a huge waterfall
- And, last but not least, three cunning bosses

I think the developer was right in flagging that "review". It's one thing if the game has issues and they refuse to fix or just ignore the issues. Steam users using the review functionality as a vent for their rage over a game not working off the bat, without giving the developer a chance to fix the issue first however, seems really unfair to me and ties in with the recent "one star review" trend on the Google Play store. I'm a developer myself (backend systems; not games) and in my experience it's very rare for a project to not contain at least a few corner case bugs that haven't popped up in testing, even when you have the resources to have a QA team assigned to the project.

I haven't looked into this particular game though, but if the user hasn't at least reported the issue on the Steam forums for the game and given the developer a fair chance to fix the bug, then I think it's a shitty thing to do before posting a "review" that isn't at all a review in the traditional sense, and thus manipulating the game's average rating.

Sorry about the rant, but I guess it's a sensitive topic for me. ;)

EDIT: That said though, I think it would be better if a review could be flagged for reclassification to a forum post. The way things work now, developers don't really have many options when it comes to troll reviews, even if their intention isn't to hide user feedback.

This blog post should not exist, you are ruining their chances to sell a game which may be perfectly good for people who like that kind of games based on only one bad review on Steam.

We always point out iffy things game developers do, this will never change.

We have, however, updated the post to be a little clearer.

I played first game and it wasn't nothing magnificent. But I did not wait something magnificent for such a cheap game. So it was Ok. I think this game will be Ok too.

It's not the medias responsibility to feed the developers with customers or protect them from poor sales. It's the developers responsibility to do the right thing, and medias responsibility to say so when they don't.

That said, people should really stop caring much about the user "reviews". That's the real issue here - people (and therefore, devs/publishers) tend to put a lot more into those amateur posts than really there are any reason to do.

I think developer at this point could just do nothing because this is second game all who bought first one like me new what are they into. I think they just freak out because it was the first review and for most part reviewer told truth. Because this is casualized kings bounty without a lot of strategy (not that kings bounty had a lot more of it)

I finished the first one. It was great fun. Had no issues. My only complaint is it was too short. I wanted more.
Yes the strategy was simple. But that mixed with it's art style and humour made it stand out from the rest of the similar type games. It's simple light hearted fun.

From what I have seen in the forums. The developer seems nice and responds to issues very quickly. Apologises for problems and seems very keen on fixing them.

I am guessing there is more to this story than meets the eye. We only have 1 side of the story. Did you try reach the developers for their side of it?? It might just be one of those crazy people that blow everything out of proportion, abuse everyone and misuse the review system.

I look forward to many more games from this dev in the future.

EDIT: also if the customer had all these issues with the first game. Why on earth did he/she buy the next?? very strange.

I've got both, and neither work decently (still waiting for devs reply).
