Our first ever GOTY Awards are over, and we have the top 10 from the two sections ready for your viewing pleasure. This was a fun experiment we will do again next year.

You can now view the full GOTY page complete with leaderboards for each game. We had it up originally, but it was removed to prevent a voting bias for the top games based on feedback. This will remain open until a lot later in the year when we prepare the next one.

The winners are Borderlands 2, and 0 A.D., so massive congratulations to them both. They are both excellent games, and deserve being winners. We've sent both a tweet to let them know, with a nice image provided by community member sobkas.

Congratulations to all the games that didn't win, as you were great enough to be nominated that should mean something!

Own up, who voted for 7 Days to Die?

We will work on nicer images to import for the winner announcement next year.

Question Time
We don't want the 2015 awards to be rammed full of so many games we can't count them, so we wish to ask you how you think we should handle it?

Should we do as other sites do and only let editors nominate?
Should we limit nominations per-person?

What (apart from more categories!) do you feel we missed that's essential for next year? And what other more regular awards would you like to see us do? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I think that next time editors should pick the games you can vote for so there isn't that huge amount of possibilities. But of course they should accept/think about proposals of the community.
Congratulations to the winners. 2014 was a great year for Linux gamers :P

100% Approval.

Would be nice if the survey is completed by the total number of votes.

Never played BL2 or The battle for Wesnoth, but 0AD and Civ5: well earned.

It should be games nominated by the editors and there should be some categories.
The main rule should be that they were released for Linux on that year. (no early access, no always the same games year after year)

With so many games it might be nice if people could rank their top5 or something where your top ranked game would get 5 points, the second would get 4 points etc..

Because if two games are very similar then it really might come down to a cointoss as to how people vote, and so all the votes for those games would be split in half. But if they could rank them then both of those games would get a bunch of 5's and 4's which might be more accurate

[EDIT]A better example might be source engine games. Say you are voting based on quality of the game ported and 100 people think the source engine was ported well. Do you vote for HL2? CSS? etc.. So those 100 votes might become 20 per game or so[/EDIT]

Just brainstorming

There's a reason why BL2 won ;)

Seriously, get it. Presuming it your type of game that is.

Only tested the Talos principle 2 days ago, If first impresions are anything to go be I think it will be epic. The graphics are stunning too. Performance seems good as well on the AMD card I have(290x)

As I commented on previous articles relating to this vote,
I recommended doing a 2 stage vote, 1st with a massive list of games,
and then a 2nd "Finals" session with the top X (10?) games being voted on again to become the top Y (3?) games, and most importantly, get the #1 game.
Pretty sure Segata agreed.

Also, how other websites do it is to limit the nominations (perhaps released in the current year) and group into more categories.
While this might be good, I don't think we should limit nominations, just have more categories for prizes (so not just GOTY (best overall), perhaps include best animation, best story, best graphics, etc.)
