Pillars of Eternity will be officially released on the 26th of March this year, and we have it confirmed that they are aiming for a same-day Linux release.
Great to see them respond so quickly, and we really hope they hit it, as it looks fantastic!

About the game
Eternity will take the central hero, memorable companions and the epic exploration of Baldur’s Gate, add in the fun, intense combat and dungeon diving of Icewind Dale, and tie it all together with the emotional writing and mature thematic exploration of Planescape: Torment.
We don't usually recommend pre-ordering it, as delays are possible, and happens a lot for Linux versions, however our Contributor BTRE had this to say:

@gamingonlinux We're aiming for that, yes.

BTREFor those of us who have been following the project, each update has shown a level of attention to detail and polish that bodes well for the final product. The pre-rendered backgrounds look beautiful and the music and voice samples they've shared are also great. Preorders have been open for a while now and if you'd like to grab a copy you can do so here.

Come on! It is not the first Linux game from Paradox Interactive. Also they have delivered good quality including a strong commitment to Linux. So I'm pretty sure that they can do it :)

If I remember correctly, Paradox were talking about Linux support for their grand strategy games before Steam was even on Linux. Also remember the lead developer of Victoria II posting guides on how to run the game on Wine as far back as 2009. Pretty cool guys.
If I had to bet on one company (other than porting houses like Feral and Aspyr) to deliver reliable day-1 Linux support, it's Paradox.

They still need to fix Warlock II, though :/

In what way are Obsidian involved here? Are they the developers? Cause then this is very interesting cause Obsidian are responsible for games like Knights Of The Old Republic 2 and Fallout New Vegas, if I am not mistaken. Ergo, if this Linux release is successful...

Yes, Obsidian is the developer.
Paradox is the publisher, and only for actual publishing and marketing. Paradox has no say at all in the development process.

Yeah. Josh Sawyer and Chris Avellone, for example, aren't new at this.
Obsidian does have a reputation of releasing buggy (and in the case of KotOR2, unfinished) games, though. This has been attributed to pressure from the publishers in the past. Here's hoping that Pillars of Eternity isn't plagued with these issues. :)

As much as I anticipated Wasteland 2, I've yet to seriously get into it. Then again I still haven't played Skyrim. Maybe I'm loosing my taste (and patience) for RPG games. Still, I'll defo be getting Pillars - reminds me of the good old days of Baldur's Gate and Planescape: Torment. Ahhh... Planescape :)))

Quoting: SslaxxConsidering that they've never got round to releasing a beta build for Linux (and this strongly implies that, despite what they've said over the last few days, the last beta build won't have Linux binaries either), well pardon me for not having any confidence in that statement.
Not supporting another Obsidian Kickstarter again. Almost as shitty treatment for Linux players as by Larian and Divinity: Original Sin. Very disappointing.
Overreacting much? It's a freaking beta. They want to make sure it's stable before they release it. God knows we don't need another Obsidian game filled with bugs.

The ending of kotor2 was... Weird. Unfinished indeed. But up until that point I had a great time.
I didn't perceive Fallout:NV as particulary buggy though - not more than Fallout 3, to put it that way. However it did lack much of the magical atmosphere found in Fallout 3. Still, I'd love to see a Linux port of'em both. They are definitely worth playing.

I personally also ran into a bug on the pole station on Telos (where you meet Atris and the handmaiden) that triggers a left-over debug-mode and prevents you from continuing to play. I was also so smart to clobber my Telos savegame with that state...
The content restoration mod is a great at fixing those issues, though. :)

Ditto.
In the case of KotOR2, I myself have a horse in that race. *cough* :P
