Planetary Annihilation my favourite crashy strategy game has teased a big update to come soon. Not only does it include unit balance changes and new units, but the long promised saved game support will come too.

When I say crashy, I mean it lovingly! Server crash bugs when playing online don't happen much at all, and it hasn't put me off sinking over 40 hours into the game now. The rest of the game does seem pretty fluid and mostly bug-free now, so it's a great time to pick it up if you still haven't.

I have to hand it to Uber Entertainment, as they have slowly delivered on all their promises. It may have taken them longer than we liked for such a "normal" feature like saved games, but it's good they are getting to it.

They stated saved game support should land around the end of February. They will also put it into a public test release before it goes into the stable client, as they do with most updates now.

As for new units, it looks like submarines will make a flashy comeback:

Wow. Now with saving and less crashing. Impressed, impressed.

This should be interesting, I recently started playing PA again. I also re bought it again, found the disc in a store. I thought that was kind of cool so I picked it up and seen "PC/MAC/LINUX" on the top left of the box, and Linux requirements on the back of it and bought it. :D

Am I the only one really sad that there aren't mega Tier 3 units?

I'm gonna give it another try later, but man this game was buggy the last time I tried it.

It has always been rather buggy, and especially on Linux, but it's reasonably stable now.

One of the first games I backed on Kickstarter (and BOY am I glad I did :D ), and it has become the current RTS champion, as far as I'm concerned. The features are still coming, and the game is already fantastic.

Not going to happen. Developers don't really have team that can produce scripted campaigns, CGs with audio and don't have budget for that. Campaigns is really expensive thing to do...

So, wait, this colossus of a game that everyone's been raving about is something where you can't save?!
Yeah, OK, I'll wait until February or whenever.

The game's focuses on competitive multilayer. Single player only really exists to help get to grips with the game. So saves ain't a big deal.

That, and there is a sort-of single-player. It isn't with cut-scenes and story, but it is quite interesting.

It's the "Galactic War" mode, you go from planet to planet taking technology (you don't have access to everything), and try to destroy everyone.

They have some more stuff planned for that single-player mode too:
For March and beyond? Well, we have a lot of stuff we still want to get in the game that we’ve mentioned before, as well as new things we’ve never talked about that we are still experimenting with (playing with Galactic War being one of them... AHH I’VE SAID TOO MUCH! :p). I’ll get you all more info on it as we nail things down, or experiments prove themselves as adding fun to the game.

Happy to see this got implemented. I bought the game on steam Early Acces and even when the game was Gold(public) damn was it far from what was promissed.

I might start playing agian !

Well I just lost another game due to their servers dying, and it causes the game to freeze.

It's so frustrating.

The camera in this game sticks as bad as sticky marshmallow hands. The learning curve seems really sharp, I was hoping for a StarCraft like RTS, Planetary Annihilation is not, it's its own animal.

Developers wanted to implement very innovational saving system so it's just takes time because it's hard to implement.
There is other things they may fix faster (especially Linux UI issues) or add earlier, but save system isn't one of them.

This is sooooo unbelievable dumb (still)... Windows != PC. I mean, what is my Linux gaming desktop? A toaster? Man, I really hate this new-speech and dumbed down marketing speech.
