The remake of the popular classic 'Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee' was released for PlayStation 4 last summer, and now the long wait for the Linux version of the game is coming to an end.

According to an update on publisher Oddworld Inhabitants' site the game will be available on Steam for Linux on 25th February. The game will cost $20 / £15 / 20€ on launch, but pre-orderers will get a 10% discount on the full price.

The game is a reimplementation of the original, using the Unity engine, and developer Just Add Water has given the 1997 classic a massive facelift and re-recorded audio. Gameplay has also been tweaked, as it offers new and better control options, the ability to command multiple mudokons and some minor changes to some of the more unforgiving platforming challenges. According to reviews it's still a challenging game though.

Since it was released for PlayStation 4 in July it has received many reviews, and it currently holds an average of 84/100 on Metacritic. Game Informer landed on a 8 out of 10 and concluded that

QuoteIf you haven’t played Abe’s Oddysee, this is definitely the best way to experience it

I haven't played much of the original myself, as I found the controls more than a bit finicky when I gave it a go a couple of years ago. My wife is a massive fan of the first two 2D platformers though, so it's a game that has been long-awaited in this household, and I'm also looking forward to giving the game a new chance with the new and improved controls.

About the game
Abe's back, and the original hero's about to face his oddest challenge yet!

A mudokon chosen by the fickle finger of fate, Abe was a first class Floor-Waxer for RuptureFarms who was catapulted into a life of adventure.

Late one night he overheard plans from his boss, Molluck the Glukkon, to turn Abe and his fellow Mudokons into Tasty Treats as a final effort to rescue Molluck's failing meatpacking empire!

Can Abe change the fate of thousands and rescue the Mudokons? Can he escape the dark recesses of RuptureFarms and the desolate, uninviting, and downright terrifying surrounding environment?

Lead our unlikely hero on his mission because if he doesn’t make it... Abe’s back on the menu! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I'm really excited for this. I love me my dark and weird games, and I never got to play Oddworld originally.

$ != €... nope, gonna wait. My money isn't worth less, especially since Valve doesn't pay tax in my country.

One small (potential) problem though for us: Unity.

It is one eyecandy-type of game; i.e., it looks great (I've seen it on Xbox). Not my cuppa tea, but platform lovers will adore it.

Very good news. I loved the original on the PS1, although I got well stuck about 80% through. Maybe I'll finally complete it on Linux.

Games like this, for those of us were there were milestones. I'm not much of one for those "nostalgia" games with awful graphics trying to pretend to be retro but Abe's Odyssey was always an amazing game.. Unity aside this is instabuy.
