I know some of you are wanting this badly, so the good news is that Age Of Wonders III will be officially released on Linux in beta form soon.

Their announcement is copied below:
QuoteThis is an announcement that we’ll have a public Steam Beta for the Update/Patch 1.5 in a couple of weeks. This free update will launch officially together with the upcoming expansion. It will be loaded with new features such as Diplomatic AI profiles, overhauled diplomatic relations and you’ll be able to test the awesome new PBEM mode. (PBEM is now the most played game mode here at the office!).

Also Lascha has been making great progress on the conversions; the Mac and Linux versions of the game are now nearing completion. We hope to have both these versions ready to drop together with the Beta of Update 1.5 on Steam, to launch together with the new expansion.

We could really help use your help to test Mac Linux, PBEM and V1.5 on as many systems as possible!

It's really great news, as I've seen a lot of people talk about how good it is, and another higher-profile game on Linux is exactly what we need.

About the game (From Steam)
Age of Wonders III is the long anticipated sequel to the award-winning strategy series. Delivering a unique mix of Empire Building, Role Playing and Warfare, Age of Wonders III offers the ultimate in turn-based fantasy strategy for veterans of the series and new players alike! I'm pretty excited about this. I've been salivating over this game, and every time I've seen it go on sale I'm sitting there sad faced that no penguin logo was there yet. Hopefully when it's released it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay less broken than Warlock 2 (which sucks since Warlock 2 is a fun, if unremarkable, game).

As for beta testing, I'm out on that front, I'll wait until it's fully released and reviewed on Linux. I've been burned by too many buggy releases over the past half year or so and don't have the will to go through a buggy pile, even if it would be helping the community (sorry). I'll wait until I have solid evidence that this game works well on Linux before pulling the trigger.

Age of Wonders 2:The Wizard's Throne is on GOG.com and I can attest that the SteamOnLinux script works and the game runs perfectly. Great game itself, too.

this is honestly one of the biggest surprises to see a port. I bought Worlock 2 and was thinking of buying Worlds of Magic because I didn't think I'd ever see an Age of Wonder port... so now i'll have to wait and see :)
