I guess I had better announce this or the flurry of emails about it will never stop! Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is now fully out for Linux, and so you may draw your swords.

About the game (Official)
Besiege castles and raid villages in Chivalry: Medieval Warfare is a first-person slasher with a focus on multi-player. Featuring competitive online combat that seeks to capture the experience of truly being on a medieval battlefield. Inspired from the intensity and epicness of swordfighting movies such as 300, Gladiator and Braveheart, Chivalry: Medieval Warfare aims to bring that experience to the hands of a gamer.

The game is skill-based and controls like an FPS, but instead of guns and grenades, players are given swords, shields, maces, battleaxes and longbows. Set in a fictional, yet gritty and realistic world, players will fight in fast paced online battles besieging castles, raiding medieval villages and fighting for glory in the arena with up to 32 players.

The Linux & Mac releases are part of a bigger patch fixing a plethora of issues.

Some thoughts
This is our latest Unreal Engine game, so it’s time to take a little look. It's nice to have more UE games to try out, as Unity games tend to be annoyingly sluggish even with my higher end card.

It's actually a pretty damn fun game, and the performance cranked up high is reasonably good on my Nvidia 970. The game isn't really a looker though, as I personally didn't find the graphics to be all that impressive, but it makes up for it with extremely fun and frantic game-play.

Just to get this straight, I'm a really terrible crossbowman! My first online game resulted in me annihilating my own team a few times, sorry guys. Honestly, I thought you were my enemy the way you were waving your swords around at me. There seems to be a fair bit of team killing on purpose in this game.
They have put in measures to help stop team killers though, as your re-spawn times increase with each bit of damage you do to your own team, so I think that's a nice touch.

I'm already pretty much in love with the game, as I ran up to protect my teams tent, I saw a guy in trouble in a 2on1, so I ran along with my mace, swung, and smashed two peoples heads in with one swing. It’s safe to say I was extremely happy with this.

I've always loved being a bowman in these types of games, and it’s mostly satisfying to be one. It helps that the controls are simple and responsive, so even with my crap aim I can land a few decent blows. The only thing that bugs me, is when I'm trying to line up a shot, if I take too long I put my arrow away, and you can’t change that setting, annoyingly.

When I kill someone, it feels extremely satisfying, and their death sounds are awesome.

Bugs
Sadly my happiness was short lived in my first run, as moments later the game crashed to the desktop, looks like I will need to do some bug hunting here.
Updated: It seems to crash to the desktop quite a bit.

I've seen the server list refuse to refresh a few times, so I was stuck with an empty server list until it decided to play ball. Issues like that are a little frustrating to say the least.
Note: This also happens on Windows, and they are looking into a fix.

If the bugs can get fixed up, then it will be a seriously fun game, but the crash bug did sour it a little, luckily it only happened once, and the rest of the time it seemed bug free.

Final Verdict (Updated): Only buy it if you don't mind constant crash to desktop bugs, as I'm now getting a lot of them.

It’s also 66% off right now, so it’s a cracking time to pick it up on the cheap and smash some friends in. Grab it on Steam.

You can see the game being ran on Linux here from Xpander69, and it should give you an idea of what to expect!

Just to warn people, it's a no-go on opensource AMD drivers (Radeon R9 270). It stutters every several seconds for at least a second. Yes, you read it correctly. Quite interestingly, their first beta version was much better, it stuttered only in the beginning, then it ran quite fine. But the current version is totally unplayable. Don't buy this if you intend to play using the radeon driver (I have no idea how it works with catalyst).

I was pretty hyped for this game when they announced the port, then not so much because I really went off multiplayer games. But played this now and really enjoyed it! Most fun I've had in multiplayer since Guns of Icarus.

One thing I don't get though is that my framerate seems to be capped at 30fps for some reason. I've tried the settings at the highest and the lowest and always get 30fps. A 750 ti should be able to get 60fps no problem at highest settings so I can't find any other explanation that it being capped.

Is that happening to anyone else?

Quoting: code7747anyone else having this issue with this game??

Do you force anti-aliasing in NVIDIA control panel ? I don't have this game yet but many UE3 games on Linux don't support anti-aliasing at all and I remember Painkiller HD having the exact same bug when trying to enforce it...
