Dead Island has been patched to fix multiple issues in the Linux version, so it looks like it’s properly playable now months after release. It may have taken over 3 months for the game to get these fixed, but it’s good to see the port wasn’t forgotten about as we thought previously.
With these issues fixed it certainly looks like the game is really playable on Linux now. We will certainly be giving it a real shot with these essentials fixed, as lots of people noted the bugs ruined the game, and they weren't wrong with the loot system broken.
If you have tried the patch be sure to let us know what you think to the Dead Island Linux port now.
Patch notes copied below (spelling errors and all!), this was a Linux-only patch:
QuotePatch notes [Linux]:
- fixed looting issue
- fixed bug with reparing a weapon (up to 100%)
- fullscreen is enabled by deafult
- fixed gamma settings
- reduced executable file size
Update: I can also confirm the frame-rate is much improved too, the game feels very smooth now. If you reset your gamma to default, all graphical issues (for me) seemed to fade too.
Check out Dead Island on Steam.
We just need Dying Light to have a performance patch, and we will have lots of Zombie fun on Linux.
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Hah, was just playing it, and shut down. When I came back I saw this and saw that a patch was downloaded. :P But it was playable before to? o.O
Edit:
But it just about doubled my FPS from 80~ish to 150-160.

What was broken with it? Worked just fine for me.
EDIT: The update screwed something up graphics-wise though. Reflections in pools look weird, and glitchy.

As I'm too lazy to list them myself, this forum post has it:
This patch should fix all that.
Quote1) all boxes give brass knuckles
2) all computers give batteries, all the time
3) all zombies drop money and nothing else
4) all trash cans give alcohol bottles, all the time
This patch should fix all that.

Still broken with mesa drivers (radeonsi drivers), the game segfault after loading the first level

The loot system was freaking me out from the start. After a while I did get used to it and found alternative solution to get materials via trading. And I thought that repairing weapons to only 99% was actually a feature against too powerful weapons.

I already beat the game with the broken system.
I may now go back to playing it to grab some of the achievements I missed.
