Feral Interactive are looking to expand their team to help out with the Linux (and Mac) porting, so this could be a great opportunity for a few of you. Feral are responsible for the excellent Linux ports of XCOM Enemy Unknown and Empire: Total War.

We know they are committed to our platform with at least another 2 ports planned, and one of them due soon. Looks like they will be porting quite a few more if they are hiring!

The important bits to know:
QuoteWhat experience should you have?

- Strong C/C++ skills
- Familiarity with Linux, preferably including development for Linux

What else would help?

- A good degree in a technical discipline
- Games development experience
- Experience of 3D graphics using OpenGL and/or DirectX
- A passion for video games

We would have shared this a few days sooner had they let us know, hint hint Feral.

See their mailing list posting here for the full details. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I am the owner of GamingOnLinux. After discovering Linux back in the days of Mandrake in 2003, I constantly came back to check on the progress of Linux until Ubuntu appeared on the scene and it helped me to really love it. You can reach me easily by emailing GamingOnLinux directly.

It's a very good sign to see companies like Feral expanding in their Linux Porting field!

I made a game once when I was 13 in which you had to negotiate your way out of expulsion in the headmaster's office (on Powerpoint)

Hire me?

Well, I think I would fit... If only I wasn't busy with my studies -_-"
Anyway, that's good to hear !

I'd not consider myself a game-developer and my C/C++ skills are mediocre, not what I would consider strong, but it's great that they hire new help! :)

Amazing, I'm a very experienced C++/OpenGL programmer, with passion for games and experience both in game programming and porting games to osx/linux/ios/android and even psp, but right now I cannot move anywhere nort I'm an last year student (I'm 37 years old :).
I would love to work for Feral, so right now I think my main interest regarding games is linux porting, which I think is a growing market, but I suppose realocation is mandatory.

Anyway, I will send them my CV just in case they accept working from home.

The more new games that can be released/ported to Linux the more people will see that their is profit in the Linux market. As porting older games isn't a good way to indicate profit. Needing more developers I think is a sign that the Linux market is doing good.
