It’s been a long time coming, but the FPS game Insurgency is finally looking like it may release on Linux.

I have been waiting for this since they announced Linux support with the original Steam release, and then removed all mentions of it, so it’s good to see them finally getting down to it!

On their latest patch they note this:
QuoteImplemented SDL2 to handle OSX window and input management; improving Mac stability and getting the game client closer to supporting Linux.

If you remember when I last spoke to the developers, they noted they have been waiting on Valve to get the version of Source that they required for Linux support, so there must have been progress there.

You can see some proper game-play from their anniversary stream below:

About the game (Official)
Take to the streets for intense close quarters combat, where a team's survival depends upon securing crucial strongholds and destroying enemy supply in this multiplayer and cooperative Source Engine based experience. The follow-up game to the award-winning Source mod, Insurgency is highly competitive and unforgivingly lethal, striking a balance between one-life gameplay and prolonged action.

See Insurgency on Steam, but remember kids, don’t buy it until Linux support is in! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I also highly followed this launch too, but believe or not, Interestellar Marines have calmed my urge for tactical shooters games very well.

Really good sign for Linux gaming. Lets hope for the best, maybe it will be released before HL3 :D

I've tried contacting them multiple times, falling on deaf ears right now it seems.

It's a fun game. Feels a lot different from Battlefield 4 or Counter Strike: GO. Maybe a bit more hardcore and realistic (there is no remaining bullets indicator for the weapon). The game feels a bit rough around the edges, yet a lot of people who play BF4 also play Insurgency so it definitely has a strong draw. If you're a Linux purist but like tactical shooters - get it on release. If you're dual booting - do it now if you haven't already (it's pretty cheap, too)

For a 'tactical' shooter it sure looks chaotic ...

It's a really decent game, trust me if you have TS
/Skype with friends on this game or start a clan, it's a heck lot of fun. (Let alone workshop maps such as AA_Bridge based upon the AA series)

It's a pitty it isn't 100% confirmed with a date settled, its on discount this weekend, 50% off ... but too risky until released.

With "No more room in hell" and the work in progress of "7 days to die" my zombie requirements are complete :D. I recommend you the first one (and its free) and when its finished the second one too if you like to build things.

I already bought Insurgency :P, hope they release it soon, its one of my most awaited games along with Squad.
