Thanks to the ever more awesome SteamDB, we have a possible list of games Valve will demo on Steam Machines at GDC, and the list is interesting.
The List (As of 22/02/15)
- Don't Starve
- Darkest Dungeon
- SteamDB Unknown App 346960 (hmmm...)
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive
- The Talos Principle
- Batman™: Arkham Origins
- METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES
- Tomb Raider I
- GRID Autosport
Before anyone gets too excited, remember part of SteamOS is game streaming, so certain games might only be streamed. However, for Steam Machines to really take off, why would they still show Windows games? This has me thinking they could well be all native. GRID, METAL GEAR and Batman could be pretty huge for us, and we really do need a good racing game.
I actually had GRID back from when I used Windows, and I couldn't fault it. If it does come to Linux I will no doubt buy some DLC and extra copies to show my own support of it.
The interesting "SteamDB Unknown App 346960" has us puzzled too, as it's too high an ID number for a Valve game, but that can easily be changed their end, so it could be to throw us off. It's probably nothing interesting though.
The SteamDB guys even note "Relax people, it's most certainly not Half-Life 3.".
It's time to really start getting excited now, so what are your thoughts?
GDC is right around the corner, and all I want to know is when I can get my hands on that damned controller!
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Clearly HL3 :P
Even though the WIndows games on there are probably for Streaming (or just to show the controller through Windows), it would be cool if even one of those turned out to be a surprise port.
Have a feeling a lot of cool stuff is going to happen at GDC Linux-wise.

Batman games on Linux sounds interesting, but doubtful. At least WB made their appearance on GOG, so may be they'll release them DRM-free as well.

If you look at the depots it seems to be the Tomb Raider Trilogy, not just the first one.

So happy Darkest Dungeon is on there, I've been getting annoyed running the game in wine.
I also stream it to my Mac (since then the Mac doesn't get hot and the fans stay quiet) but to be able to stream it I've had to install /shiver, windows...

Didn't even notice the SteamDB comment, added it to the article to reduce any over hype people may accidentally get into ;)

What if Valve shows Steam Machines only with Windows at GDC?
Yes, it's highly unlikely as Valve knows what that would mean concerning "the media".
But who knows.

Not going to speculate about Batman on Linux, but Bastion is a Warner Bros game and it is available on Linux. So, there's some hope...

This has me thinking they could well be all native.Well, on the contrary: streaming being part of SteamOS, I think it's pretty important that they show how Windows games run through this in order for Steam Machines to take off. Remember that their target customer is the one that already has a Steam account and want to play games he/she already owns on a TV set. Showing only native games would be a big mistake.
I wouldn't expect a Konami game like MGS on SteamOS. Japanese companies favor consoles, they barely consider Windows as a viable platform, though it has changed a bit in the recent years (MGS and other Konami games being available on Windows, obviously). Don't expect one of their games on Linux anytime soon.
The same goes for Codemasters, I doubt that they'd port GRID on Linux.
Batman is more likely a possibility as there has been rumors in the previous years for a Linux port of Batman Arkham Asylum. And Warner has already released a game on Linux (Bastion) so they're not closed on this.

Was a Linux port of Metal Gear Solid Ground Zeroes ever hinted at? According to this Steam discussion (1st reply) there were no plans as of last December.

Batman: Arkham Origins is developed and published by Warner Bros. It's not unreasonable to expect this will be a native Linux release. Warner Bros has a good track record with Bastion, Transistor, and Gauntlet.
