Stardock May Have Linux News For Us At GDC

By -
Stardock, the company behind Galactic Civilizations, CEO Brad Wardell replied to a user on twitter about Linux interest, and Brad had an interesting reply you might like to see.

@iantjac We hope to have some news on that front (Linux) at GDC. :)

Now, this could me anything, and we don't really have any other details right now.

GDC start on March 2nd and ends on March 6th, so it really won't be very long before we are able to find out what the hint is for.

Speculation time
The most likely answer to this is that Stardock may bring their newest game "Offworld Trading Company" to Linux, as they may have already had plans set in motion for this.

QuoteOffworld Trading Company is a real-time strategy game in which money, not firepower, is the player's weapon. Players must stake their claims to resources and wrest any advantage they can buying and selling on the real-time marketplace – but greasing some palms on the black market for a timely pirate raid on a rival’s supply chain can make all the difference.

However, they could be teasing ports for older games, and we will welcome them with open arms either way. It's great to see more developers get involved and tease us.

I really want them to port GalCiv 2 to Linux. It's in top 5 on my port wishlist.
Other than that it's nice too see them looking into Linux. I remember posting a quite critical comment on their Steam community hub for being so ignorant and avoidant about it. I'm happy that this changed.

Stardock replied a few months ago on the steam forum, that there current games won't come to linux, but they'll build future engines with linux in mind.

Stardock has been in business for a long time, responsible for the practically essential Start8 for people who were unlucky enough to buy a Windows 8 PC. They've been making Windows enhancements for over a decade.

Some of their games, Gal Civ, and Sins, are pretty terrific games, and any of them (or one new one) ported to Linux is very good news.

Great news. Never played any of their games but the reviews and opinions are good.
In the beginning of the video shows a interface of some kind. That is a engine editor interface and appers to be Unity in the upper part of it.

Just a Image to compare with the video.
