After a brief Early Access period, The Book Of Unwritten Tales 2 has been released along with the previously unseen fifth chapter of the game.

Since September, the game had been in Early Access which was quite an unusual move for an adventure game. However, the approach of releasing a chapter once a month to allow for play testing and bug squashing is quite a clever move from a small developer who might not have the money to splash out on long QA periods.

I have to say, I absolutely loved the game - even more so than the prequel. It’s easily one of the best adventure games I have ever played and quite possibly the funniest, which is quite an achievement considering the genre’s association with humour.

All in all this is a must have for any point-and-click fan, from the beautiful artwork to the great pop-culture references and fun side-quests, this game is a real gem. I couldn’t really find any flaws with this game, aside from a few bugs during the Early Access period which should be gone by now and even they were pretty minor.

With the release, both the original BoUT and Critter Chronicles are on sale at 75% off on Steam and are also worth picking up if you don’t have them already. I would say the new game doesn’t require playing either and can be easily enjoyed as a standalone experience, but if you want to get more familiar with the characters (and also enjoy another great adventure game) I would suggest getting the original too, with Critter Chronicles being far more optional.

You can get The Book of Unwritten Tales 2 DRM-free on GOG.com or on Steam, or you can support GOL by buying it on Games Republic.

About the author -
After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

I can remember when point-and-click adventure games were very few and very far between, once LucasArts quit making them; now we have quite a few, and TBoUT is one of the very best. I eagerly look forward to this sequel. :D

Quoting: fleskThese games are easily some of the best point-and-clicks made the last decade. I've only played the first couple of chapters of this one so far, but I already love it. Can't wait to check out the rest.

That was actually my feeling about Primordia, it was similarly amazing. Guess I really need to get around to finishing the original Unwritten Tales, I think I left off upon entering the orc camp so I don't think there's too much left.

I love that one too, and I'm looking forward to the upcoming Linux version that will come with a slew of bug fixes and minor enhancements. It's been a long time coming though, as mentioned before. WEG likes to hit the right timing with their releases.
