BioShock Infinite has been released for Linux, and it brings a promise of some excellent FPS action with it.
To get this out of the way first; the port is done by Virtual Programming, so it's using their "eON" technology. The argument for and against it has been done to death somewhat, so let’s leave that at the door please.
This is the third port from Virtual Programming, and it's my favourite out of the games they have put out for Linux!
Once Steam decides I'm worthy of a download I will detail my findings, so until then you can either wait, or risk it and buy it.
Intel graphics, and open source drivers are not currently supported on the title, so you have been warned!
RECOMMENDED GRAPHICS DRIVERS
nVidia: NVidia 340.65
AMD: fglrx 14.12 (Currently only Radeon 7xxx and greater series cards are supported)
About the game (Official)
Indebted to the wrong people, with his life on the line, veteran of the U.S. Cavalry and now hired gun, Booker DeWitt has only one opportunity to wipe his slate clean. He must rescue Elizabeth, a mysterious girl imprisoned since childhood and locked up in the flying city of Columbia. Forced to trust one another, Booker and Elizabeth form a powerful bond during their daring escape. Together, they learn to harness an expanding arsenal of weapons and abilities, as they fight on zeppelins in the clouds, along high-speed Sky-Lines, and down in the streets of Columbia, all while surviving the threats of the air-city and uncovering its dark secret.
Check out BioShock Infinite on Steam now, but you may want to hold off for our official report.

Told you so. ;)Much to my dismay. I am sure some of you remember how I feel about VirtualProgramming.

Awesome! Downloading it now :)
I don't care if it's eON, as long as it runs fine. It's not an ideal solution, but with games that have been around for a while it's a simpler solution than porting the whole thing over. As long as we don't start seeing it for new releases, it's fine by me.

Well, that was unexpected... anyways, purchased it right away... not so sure how wise choice that was but I'll see after I get this installed. :P

Hopefully it'll be playable now, rather than several months down the line..

If they perfect their wrapper I think they might soon be the leading company to port games to Linux. If it is a lazy and quick solution that does the job, even big companies would happy with it.

Ah, really? Hadn't seen that. Game runs perfectly fine on my 6950 under Windows. So if it does not under Linux I'll not support Eon-ports in the future, because they prove to be (way) more resource-hungry than native ports :)
Mesa isn't supported either. Well, well. No BioShock for me then. At least not under Linux. *stops the download*

It lags on my machine with high details (GeForce 970, Core i7 4790 and 32 GB RAM).
However it seems stable.

Do we know if this port is going to include the DLC? Or is it just the core game?

OMG, now i can download dozens of GBs anew. Deleted it 1 week ago cause i thought this might take a long time.
But big thanks anyway to the porters.

Actually it does not lag as much as I could fear, however it lags a bit. But anyway thanks to the porter.
The first time I did not go to the main menu, but the next time things went fine.
A glitch :
- Resolution cannot be changed. If you're in 16:10 resolution is locked to 1280x800 and in 16:9 it is locked to full HD.

I was pleased to see the update of 25MB in the download queue. Started the game , the logo sequences play through and then it sits on a blank black screen. I left it there for 10 minutes in case it was normal. It does Alt - tab and also f4 out. Downloading the whole thing again. I can try again in 5 hours.

Just a few words though. Aspyr ported the game to Mac, <snip>
Editor comment: Be polite. No need for that.

This is awesome I dont care if it uses VP technology as long as it runs great on a Nvidia 780 Ghz Video card. If all i do is click play on my steam library that's all that matters to me. Witcher 2 runs great now on my rig. Downloading now as I type this.
