Paradox, a very Linux friendly developer and publisher, just released a new patch for their grand-strategy game Europa Universalis IV, and alongside with it a free DLC, to celebrate women's day : Women in History.

To mark International Women’s Day (March 8th) Paradox Development Studio has created a free update for Europa Universalis IV, adding 100 great women of history to the game. Each character can be generated through event triggers (a weak regency, a colonial empire, certain ideas, etc.). Players will then have choices about how to use this talented woman. Some may join your court as advisors, some might be suitable for riskier employment as rulers or leaders.
Thomas Johansson, the head of Paradox Development Studio, says that this DLC does something important for the company’s flagship title. "It's no surprise that the role of women in history isn't as well known as that of men,” Johansson says. “Europa Universalis, admittedly, hasn't done a lot to foreground their contributions. We thought that International Women's Day was the best time to do a little bit to help balance the scales and introduce our audience to some very interesting people."

As always, there are apparently some bugs left, but also as always, Paradox released 1.11.1 patch only two days after 1.11 was out.
I haven't played much since the DLC came out, only a new game with Castille, and I didn't get any women specific event, nor any bugs by the way.

I started a game where I tried to take all of South America as the Inca (and succeeded btw :D) but this patch came out after I started the game so haven't got to play it yet.
Gives me more reason to start a new campaign soon I guess. Just don't know what that should be. I keep thinking I should play as either China or Japan, but my last two games have been with quite isolated countries and want to get back to where all the action is! (ie. in Europe or bordering it). If anyone has any suggestions, let me know.
Those are pretty good suggestions! I think I prefer the Switzerlake one, just because I really enjoy the HRE mechanics and haven't played a HRE game since before The Art of War DLC. Thanks :)
Yeah, it's a good campaign! I made the mistake of supporting Colombia in their war of independence though, so coring provinces on them ended up being much more expensive than intended. Otherwise I think I could have easily made my way up through Mexico I think.
So much choice to play as next, Castille might be good again, take out France early days and rule the New World... hhmmm youve got me thinking.
If you like Asia, Korea's a lot of fun... hint, hint ;) Dai Viet would be quite challenging
Playing as Ava and forming Shan was pretty fun; particularly trying to conquer the Shan provinces before Ming could get there (and vassalize them all). Also proved challenging to go up against the Indians who ended up being twice as far ahead on all tech except military. The game ended in 1742 as the 1.10 patch came out though, so I couldn't finish conquering all of India and converting it to Buddhist (I had most of it via my Vassal Bahmanis).
The Prestor John achievement (Own Constantinople, Alexandria and Antioch as Ethiopia) was also really fun. Trying to contend with the Ottomans as an underdog is always a good challenge.
I'm currently going for a HRE dismantle as Friesland (after I form the Netherlands), unfortunately Burgundy is kicking France's arse at the moment, so taking my Dutch provinces is proving tricky.
I'm also trying to gent 100% merchantlism as Genoa, but that's just a slog and not very fun.
I was finishing an English-Great Britain game with random new world, and I finally got one event : a woman (which name I can't remember, sorry..) who I could choose to hire as a +2 advisor or get a +10% Production income. Something to do with indigo plantations in... south-eastern United States ? Not sure.
Well, as I don't play so often, I tend to stick to major powers mainly. And now with the El Dorado expansion, Portugal and Castille should get event better, so I'll probably try one of these, to see the new exploration mechanics, and the quest for the seven cities.
Yeah Paradox are really great. When I heard that CK2 was coming to Linux I couldn't believe it. And then, a same day release with EU4... that was just awesome.
These two (Crusader Kings 2 and Europa Universalis 4) where the first AAA native games in my Steam library.
