Another new game, and another new set of issues for Linux gamers to deal with! We are the lucky bunch aren't we!
About the game (Official)
Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is the brutal conclusion to the Hotline Miami saga, set against a backdrop of escalating violence and retribution over spilled blood in the original game. Follow the paths of several distinct factions – each with their own questionable methods and uncertain motivations – as unforeseen consequences intersect and reality once again slips back into a brilliant haze of neon and bloodshed.
Blistering combat against punishing opposition will require intense focus as new variables, weapons, and methods of execution are introduced throughout the struggle. Let the striking colors of an unmistakable visual style wash over as you meticulously cut down those that would stand between you and the ultimate meaning behind the massacre. This is the finale, this is the unquestionable end.
We have been graciously gifted a key by GamesRepublic to test it, but sadly Devolver don't give us keys to pre-test, so we could have warned you about the issues before you all went nuts and picked it up.
The game completely locks all input before you even get to play it, so right now it's junk. I know we are a minority, and I know developers aren't going to get stinking rich from us, but come on.
Here's a Steam forum post with lots of people confirming the exact same issue. A developer has commented on it with this:
Final Verdict: We have every confidence in them, as Devolver Digital is one of the "good guy" publishers, so just sit on it for a bit. Right now it's a no-go zone though. I do wonder how much testing was actually done since it's such a widespread issue.
If you wish to buy it though, head over to our GamesRepublic store page to help us out too.
Update: It seems this doesn't affect everyone.

QuoteSorry for the troubles guys, just so you know we are aware of this issue and will be looking into it. Thanks for all the info so far, anything more will be helpful as we've not been able to repro this on our end at all so far.
I'm curious; has any of you managed to get the game into windowed mode (perhaps by using gamepad) and seen different behaviour?

It worked for me out of the box on Fedora 21, I have played for some hours now and did not run into a single problem at all...

Worked for me on a GTX 760 on Mint 17.

Works perfectly. Arch Linux, i5-3570, GTX970.
EDIT: Surprisingly enough, considering I get all kinds of shit with my dual screen setup.

Works fine on my laptop; my desktop suffers the input issue though.

Doesn't work for me on Arch i7 3770K GTX660
I guess it has something to do with what mouse/keyboard you're using. (Logitech g15 and Roccat Kone XTD for me) might try my steelseries sensei with it and see if there's a change. If you have an xbox pad , playstation controller or some other usb controller, you can play it with that and it will work fine.

GameMaker studio games have always been problematic on Linux. Risk of Rain still has issues too.

At least it's playable with an Xbox controller. Still, I'll be happy once they've sorted the keyboard issue.

I'm going to take a completely random stab at this and guess that it's related to which compositor is in use. The ones that use acceleration tend to cause input problems in OpenGL games.
