Sad news for MOBA fans, as Riot has confirmed that LoL will not be heading to other platforms. It is a little confusing as always, since they say that dreaded "Mac and PC", but presumably they mean Mac and Windows. The optimist in me would think "hey maybe they mean Linux when they say PC", but I highly doubt it.

QuoteToday’s announcement mentioning League of Legends has generated a lot of speculation in the LoL player community. We’d like to clarify that our focus is on making sure League plays great on Mac and PC. No plans for console, mobile or other platforms at this time

I have never played LoL, so I don't know what it is like at all, but I know there's quite a few fans of it around these parts.

I was a massive Dota 2 fan a year ago, but there are so many better things to do with your time than get angry at random people. I do see why people love games like LoL and Dota 2 though, as if you can gather an actual team of people you know, then it's pretty fun, but it still doesn't stop an enemy team from rage quitting or being arseholes.

I installed LoL a while back, but lasted in that game for like an hour before its utterly immature community got to me. It's just too unfriendly for my taste (I belong to the camp that doesn't think trash-talk and insults are ok just because it's the internet). So yeah, they can keep their game. No big loss.

As others have said here, this MOBA genre has a lot of top quality representatives in linux, so it is not at all important that this particular game is not coming to us.

Alternatives that I know of:
* Dota 2
* Strife
* Heroes of Newerth
* Awesomenauts
* Tome: immortal arena

It's not so much the fact that there are alternatives in the MOBA space.....it's just that Riot's attitude really sucks. :p Why not utilize eON VP and get this done with. :) Just so you guys know, the performance on the Mac client is quite abysmal...so it's pretty much Windows only if you want the "proper" experience.

1 big reason why LoL won't come to Linux is, that its Launcher makes heavy use of Adobe AIR, which dropped Linux Support quite a while ago. So, in order for it to be portable to linux, they would have to create a whole new client. it's sad, really. With the OSX-Port, the game already runs on OpenGL (and you can change some config file in the windows-version to use OpenGL).

Oh well, LoL runs quite okay-ish in WINE & I am a Dota 2 fan anyway. We got enough MOBA's in linux...
Dota 2, Heroes of Newerth, Strife, ...
Just not the most popular one :S
