Lots Of Big Games Confirmed For SteamOS, Torchlight II Now Out, Payday 2, Mordor And More Coming Too

Valve has announced a Steam sale simply titled ”STEAMOS SALE” with interesting games that are already available and games that they claim are heading over to the platform. The list seems to include some quite big titles too!
A big part of the games featured on the sale are titles that are already on Linux, such as the Aspyr ports Borderlands 2 and Civilization V and indies like Ziggurat and Kerbal Space Program, but as much as we love those games the announcement has something even bigger. Games that apparently are getting ported but have so far been unannounced.
Torchlight II is now officially available, so go check it out. It seems they waited for this big announcement to make a real splash!
Now, before I set out to list these games, I'd like to remind all of you not to blindly buy the games mentioned. I know, I know, it seems very official and all, but we haven't heard anything from some of these titles, so be careful. We are trying to reach out to everyone we know for confirmation.
However, they have massive "Coming to SteamOS" banners on the Steam homepage, so it's extremely exciting.
Okay, now that we have the disclaimers out of the way it's time to blow your minds.
The sales page promises titles such as

Shadow of Mordor is officially confirmed, and is being ported by Feral Interactive. Feral have stated to us officially that it will release “this spring”, and they have publicly announced it on twitter now too:
Payday 2 is fully official now too:
Saints Row IV, Company of Heroes 2, GRID Autosport and Total War™: ROME II are also official, and they have updated their store pages to say this:
Magicka 2 have updated their store page availability to state this:
Batman: Arkham Knight - Already has a Linux icon, possibly not a same-day release even though it has a Linux icon, as the store notes it will be released on SteamOS in the "fall" which is after the release. So, not sure why it has a Linux icon now.
The Witcher III - The only one not mentioning anything about SteamOS/Linux on their store page.

Just sharing if others have not already done so.
Rome II Total War was announced November 2013. promised for early 2014. I bought into it and feels it is kind of an insult that they announce it again like this, as if nothing was ever promised. Even so, I do like to see they have not forgotten about us.

Drivers will also, most likely, be sorted out by November (if not before)....well, at least AMD and NVIDIA's proprietary drivers.Honestly (and sadly), I wouldn't expect real drivers from AMD by november. Or ever, in fact.
The skepticism is justified and understandable....however, AMD cannot afford to fuck around anymore. :) They'll have to get their act together. I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt and assume they'll sort their drivers out....at the very least, proper Vulkan support. :p
NB: I won't be suprised if get Tekken 7, Street Fighter 5, Mortal Kombat X and Metal Gear Solid: Phantom Pain on Linux by November. :p
Difficult very difficult maybe mortal kombat x (wb) but street fighter v (capcom), tekken 7 (namco) and metal gear (konami) dont because capcom, namco and konami dont have interest in linux for now
However could be possible see other titles from other publisher like as sega, alien isolation stay very good and other titles of them like as sonic all stars racing transformed and many others

IIRC, both Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 are based of Unreal Engine 4....so it's not such a stretch of the imagination to see them on Linux.....same for Mortal Kombat X (Unreal Engine 3). The respective companies may not have an interest in Linux per se.....but they'll be very interested in SteamOS as a brand/platform. :D
Sega is the interesting company....they're branching away from console development and focusing on PC and Mobile.....hmm.

Correct me if I'm wrong but with VULKAN it is the first time AMD can get rid of the old cruft and start from scratch without NVidia being ahead. If they fuck up again, THAT would be disappointing. But I'm positive. There is a realtistic chance this will end in a solid driver by AMD.

IIRC, both Street Fighter 5 and Tekken 7 are based of Unreal Engine 4....so it's not such a stretch of the imagination to see them on Linux.....same for Mortal Kombat X (Unreal Engine 3). The respective companies may not have an interest in Linux per se.....but they'll be very interested in SteamOS as a brand/platform. :D

Vulkan is OpenGL, for all intent and purpose...or rather, an off-shoot that is low-level and tweaked specifically for games and other applications that require low-level access/performance.
OpenGL will still exist (donno if it'll be called OpenGL 5 etc) but will be more general purpose. That's my understanding from what i've read so far.
I also concur that AMD will HAVE to sort their drivers out. AMD will be fine with Vulkan....OpenGL 1-4 and beyond...I don't know....I hope so. :)

You'll be very suprised how quickly this attitude will change. If they have a solid platform to work with; enamored with a growing user base and developer support...it'll happen...no doubt.

Exactly if buying userbase* dont grow more is very difficult see more AAA titles
*for see this linux must be more simple to final user than now
However in middle of this see AAA titles like as shadow of mordor, batman, grid autosports and others is very impressive
EA and Ubisoft is very difficult however origin must be work on linux more easily (QT) on game side difficult
On EA side (if them want) maybe see first titanfall because this game use source engine (modified)

What about the Bioshok infinite port ? Still no info from 2K ?
There are probably a handful of titles coming to Steam OS that aren't in the sale.

Been waiting so long for Torchlight II and 'tis finally out! Can't believe that list o' games that are being ported :D ! Now to see how well Vulkan is when it is released.
