OpenClonk 6 Reimplements Fog Of War

The open source project OpenClonk published another bigger update. The new update provides a bunch of graphical improvements: Fog of War, Shaders for materials, objects and particles. Because of the fact that Clonk has a strong tradition in user generated content, there is now also the possibility to modify all these shaders in your own custom mods. A few years ago, Fog of War had to be removed from the game because the (zoomable) high resolution landscape broke it. Also, the energy system got reworked and there are many bug fixes and new content as well.

About Clonk

The 2D sandbox-sidescroller game Clonk was originally released in 1994. That makes the Clonk series even older than the Worms series (1995). The game could be seen as the grandfather of peaceful settlement gaming and combat in fully destructible 2D environments. The game itself contains a bunch of scenarios. Each one has its own landscape (often randomly generated) and its own goal. They can also be played online in multiplayer. The latest title, OpenClonk, has been released under the CC-By 3.0 licence and is developed by its community. Read the official About page.

Note that some parts of the game are a bit provisional. More animals and a lot of stuff that was in the previous title Clonk Rage (also Linux friendly!) may be added in the future. Currently, the controls and ingame interface are are being worked on. You can post bug tracker entries or write any ideas and feedback in the forum. Everybody and every kind of help are welcome. This is the first time I've heard of this game, thank you for sharing! Am I right to assume this plays closely to the same style that is Terraria? (despite graphical differences)

Terraria is more like a RPG with a character that gets stronger and stronger equipment. In Clonk, you only gain classic skill and knowledge about "how to survive enemy players / monsters / acid or how to run an gold mine while volcanoes are damaging your buildings" by playing a round.

So you have many worlds in Clonk. On CCAN and other community websites , there are thousands of user created object packs or scenarios with their own scripted buildings, monsters etc. Many of them are adventures for ppl who prefer pure RPG. (Most of them are for Clonk Rage though)

It's very different to Terraria, its based on a old commercial game called Clonk. You have different modes, survival, parkour (going from A to B) ... I highly recommend this one, in multiplayer overall. Suitable for casual plays, or long ones but without investing half of life :D

I remember Clonk back when it was still a DOS game. Always loved it. <3

Rest in peace good old original Clonk <3. By the way the latest commercial version with its Linux debut is free.

Last time I tested OpenClonk it doesn't felt like Clonk so I stopped playing it.
