The latest instalment in the baseball simulation franchise Out of the Park Baseball was released earlier in the week. It's the first in the franchise to have officially licensed brands and teams, going back over a hundred years of historical seasons, so baseball fans will be able to enjoy playing around with their favourite Major League Baseball teams. Not only that, but leagues in Australia, Japan and elsewhere are also represented, adding flavour and variety to the teams.

Plenty of other changes and improvements have been made over the last installment and can be seen fully here.
This annualized series is in the vein of Football Manager and the upcoming Sportball Manager, meaning that gameplay is centered around the management and business side of things. These types of simulations tend not to be graphically impressive but offer a lot of depth and freedom for players to attend to every detail if they so wish.

I personally haven't gotten sucked in by the genre despite trying a few different games out but it's great to see all sorts of games make it to Linux. I know that in the case of Football Manager, it's regularly in the top 10 played games on steam at any given moment; getting more of these types of games is good news.

You can get Out of the Park Baseball 16 on Steam or directly through the developer. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Great to see OOTP 16 got its own article. An excellent game even for those who doesn't know much about baseball (great read: Moneyball. As mentioned it has lots of depth (I mean lots of) but still friendly for new players if let AI handle most of the things in the beginning. Knowledge and skills comes with the experience.
Linux support is excellent and overall the development team seems to be super helpful. You can even make a Skype call to devs if you need some help :) [1]
This games offers hundreds of hours of gameplay so the price is totally worth of it.

This has been the baseball simulator for a number of years now (the way X-Plane is the flight simulator), and is highly recommended, even, as was said, if you don't know a lot about baseball, IMHO, the greatest sport. If you do know a lot about baseball, you'll be amazed and delighted.

I've owned three previous versions of this game and I have to say if you're looking for a way to waste a Sunday afternoon and you love baseball and sports statistics...there is no better way! There is great satisfaction in drafting players you watch evolve before your eyes to become stalwarts in your lineup season after season. You start to become attached to them and it becomes difficult to part ways with them when the inevitable career decline kicks into full gear.

The game features great customization options too allowing you to create jerseys, logos and custom leagues. At the moment I've got enough games in my queue that I haven't gotten around to playing yet...but sooner or later...this will receive many hours of my free time! ^_^
