Plague Inc: Evolved is a unique mix of high strategy and terrifyingly realistic simulation. Your pathogen has just infected 'Patient Zero' - now you must bring about the end of human history by evolving a deadly, global Plague whilst adapting against everything humanity can do to defend itself.

See the official announcement post on their Steam forum.

The game is currently in Early Access, and they have just this month launch the test version for Linux!

Check out Plague Inc: Evolved on Steam now. Bugs are to be expected of course!

If you decide to check it out, please do let us know what it is like! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Another game from my "can't wait for a Linux version" list was crossed out. Awesome! So good to be able to play this game again

Is this the same game that is currently available for Android?

It basically is, but with more features (multiplayer hasn't been released yet though):
QuotePlague Inc: Evolved is a new game for PC and Mac which has been entirely redeveloped from the mobile game (Plague Inc.). It combines the original critically acclaimed gameplay of Plague Inc. with significant, all-new features:

- Infectious Multiplayer - cooperative and competitive gameplay modes let you team up to fight the cure with friends, or compete in a race to kill the world.
- Contagious Content Creator - hit the lab and develop your own custom scenarios - creating new plague types and worlds. Bring your deadliest ideas to life and share them with Steam Workshop.
- Blinding Graphics - Including full 3D disease models taking you closer to your plague than ever before, city-cams showing humanity's struggle at street level, and the body scanner highlighting the full effect of your mutations, organ by organ.
- Deadly Data - Predict government responses with priority indicators, geek out with loads of new stats and graphs, and analyse your best strategies with end-of-game replays.
- And much more!

I've had this on my "wish" list since the moment it was announced and I've been impatiently awaiting its release for Linux-based operating systems... The moment it is available for Linux-based operating systems, is the moment I'll have it.

If the games that have actually been announced for Linux-based operating systems, Plague Inc: Evolved sits pretty high on my list...

Of course, add in my "wish for a Linux release" list and well, it goes to the bottom of the list - but that's another story. ;-)

Quoting: GuestI played through this one before on windows, it was addictive for like 2-3 hours, then once I figured out the pattern to win the first level, all the joy was gone because all the other levels could be won with the exact same pattern. I found it weird though how the first level seemed harder than every single level I played after it.

I totally agree. I played this for close to 2 hrs on my android tablet and was engrossed for just over half of that time then...boredom. Still great news that yet another popular game is headed our way.

I found the android version pretty boring as well... However I played the PC version for two full and continuous days, back when I was using Windows, and I had a lot of fun. Then I moved to Linux and the game wasn't playable with Wine (at least for me) and a couple of Wine versions later when it worked (worked perfectly) I didn't really feel like playing strategy games so I abandoned it with the hope that one day it will get a native port and only then I will play it again... and that day is here :D Next week I'll have some spare time and I'll definetely spend it playing this awesome game :D
