Well there goes my Tuesday night. Outlast, one of the scariest games ever made is releasing for Linux on Tuesday the 31st of March!

The official press release emailed to us was short and sweet:
QuoteWhile the team is working very hard on Outlast 2, we are pleased to announce that Outlast and Whistleblower, its DLC, will be released on Mac and Linux on March 31st, 2015, available on Steam.

As ever, thank you for your interest in Red Barrels.

I highly suggest you prepare for the experience by keeping a new set of undies handy, or a pillow to hide behind.

The Whistleblower DLC will also be on Linux, so we get the full frightening experience.

I can't wait to hear Samsai scream in fear in a future GOL Cast. Let us know if the comments if you want see our Samsai play it (please don't make me, make him!).

About the game (Official)
Hell is an experiment you can't survive in Outlast, a first-person survival horror game developed by veterans of some of the biggest game franchises in history. As investigative journalist Miles Upshur, explore Mount Massive Asylum and try to survive long enough to discover its terrible secret... if you dare.

Check out Outlast on Steam, but remember not to buy it until the release. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Sweet. I've been putting off playing it waiting for a Linux port.
Same here. Good to see some good sense and patience. :) Good on ya.

+1!

I'm looking forward to a port report, Liam! What about using diapers to keep the pants dry? ;-)

If the Linux port is good, i will definitely buy it!!

It installs and runs really well. The performance is great (pretty much constant 60FPS) on my Nvidia GTX970, but there's an occasional graphical glitch that spoils it for me. Looks like this. It's particularly glitchy around the security room about 10 minutes in. Looks like this.

I'm enjoying the game so far. But if these graphical issues persist, I can't see myself getting too immersed.

Thanks for the info!
I fear a single glitch could really spoil the experience for me, and other Linux & Nvidia users are reporting the same on the Steam forum.
Too bad, I'd have some free time the next days...
I still have Among The Sleep to play, but I guess it's not equally dangerous for the pants. ;)

I got as far as the body hanging from the ceiling, scared the living daylights out of me. hehehe not many games can do that.

Oulast ran very bad on my system (quad core, GTX660, 8 GB), which is well over the recommended specs (GTX460).
I had 12 fps in the main menu(!) and about 10 in the opening scene in the car.
Today they've pushed an update - not even two days after the first bug reports about glitches and less than one day after mine- which is supposed to fix the glitches and for sure fixed my problem. I'm getting 60 fps in menu and in game now.
Hurray!
