You know since yesterday with our massive SteamOS news post that Torchlight II is now on Linux, but since the dust is settling we have had some time to check out the port, here’s how it runs.
My thoughts
I played through a fair bit of the first Torchlight and loved it, so I am extremely pleased to see Torchlight II on Linux. We don’t have many high quality Diablo-like RPG games on Linux, so this should help fill a big void.
I’m very happy to report, that we do actually have characters heads and faces this time around. For those that don’t know, the original port of Torchlight had a bug where characters heads disappeared.
I’ve been testing out Torchlight II for a little while now, and I’m pleased to say for me the port works really, really well. Take into account that I am on an Nvidia 970, but even with everything set to High I haven’t seen the game dip below 70FPS even when tons of action is going on.
I haven’t noticed any bugs myself yet, but I’ve seen a few Linux specific bugs on the Steam forum like this one, and it seems it’s an issue with AMD Catalyst drivers, and this one too, which also seems to be on AMD GPU’s.
I haven't yet had a chance to try anything other the single player, so I can't say if the co-op works or not.
You can see an unedited video of my game-play below, and you can see the FPS in the corner. Please note that recording does affect the performance, but not by a lot in this case:

Final Verdict: Buy it if you're on Nvidia, works fantastic for me. Everything seems smooth, and it’s fun to play. If you're on AMD you may want to wait until it's fixed up, or AMD release a new driver if it's driver related.

Excellent port of an excellent game.
This is one of those games that should be in every Linux gamers library. When it is on sale it's an obvious nobrainer, but even at a "regular" price it's worth it.
Coop is yet to be tested by me - I had too much fun soloing yesterday.

BTW: I recommend using vokoscreen for screen recording. I'm using it for recording games, and there is almost no impact on games performance. But looking on your spec, you don't have problems with that ;)

I played it on yesterday on my SteamOS testrig, which still don't have dedicated videocard, just the 7600k APU, and got no problems, it's running very well, without graphical glitches, or slowdons in 1080p maxed settings. (SteamOS using 14.10 Catalyst now)

cause i maxed everything except bloom and i get dips down to 35 even in places.
mostly its around 50-60 fps though.
what i saw was that the damn game was using 1 core only..so that might be my problem..since AMD perf sucks in singlethread.. didnt test __GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 yet.

Hmmmm..Yet Another Game that I bought on Windows in my dual-boot days (along with X-COM, The Witcher 2, Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, and Empire:Total War) that are counted as Windows sales :'( .

I have two SteamOS boxes, one using Nvidia (GTX 780) and the other one using an AMD HD 7970.
The game is working perfectly on both.
BTW: Nvidia's GL_THREADED_OPTIMIZATION=1 actually lowers the perf in this case.

No issue to report on 2 systems on Fedora 21. Daughters computer has a 750Ti FTW and mine has a 780 Ghz Edition.

It runs perfectly for me maxed out on my AMD GPU and CPU. ( R9 270x and 8350 4ghz 8 core. ) I use the Catalyst 14.12 drivers. I average around 60 fps with dips that go down to around 51 fps.

Quite a number of mods actually *aren't* working for me. For example, Enhanced Retex causes the game to crash before the initial splash screen, and Additional Classes causes it to crash after the initial splash screen, but before the menu.
That said, I've got five or so installed and working, so many of them do work.

Haha yeah me too! :D However I eventually got used to use my left hand to cast the various spells instead - but it took some time for sure.
