The new free Unreal Tournament has come a long way in a short time, and it’s getting better with each new release!

I tried to grab a video of the new map, but their server list is lying to me, every game I joined that claimed it was on the new “Outpost23” map, wasn’t. Here’s a pretty video of it from someone else:

To get in on the action you need to go to this forum post as a registered and logged in user, and follow the Linux download link.

Once downloaded you can run it in terminal by doing this command (in the downloaded folder):
QuoteEngine/Binaries/Linux/UE4 UnrealTournament -SaveToUserDir -opengl4

You don’t need the opengl4 argument, but it works a lot better for me!

Apparently it will crash x if you run it with mesa, so don't even try unless you like to reboot. I can't verify this, but it comes from a trustworthy source.

The launcher now makes everything easy, including finding a game with a “Quick Match” option, and using traditional server lists.

Remember it’s still very early, and there will be plenty of bugs and bland looking maps. Everything is still being worked on, but the combat already feels awesome.

Hop on it and tell us how it runs for you! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I love how they're making this game available to everybody, as long as people don't see it as the final product :L

Its looks pretty good since the last time i saw it!

I tried it back in mid January. At that time I was getting a lot of weird graphic glitches in every map. Going to wait for a bit before trying again.

There was a workaround for that at the time.
But it's all fixed now. No need to wait.

Yep, I can confirm this. Currently, every UE4 demo crashes rhe radeon driver.
I have a 7870. Hopefully I will be able to play it on Vulkan soon :P

The crash is actually specific to the r600g driver, and not a problem with Mesa in general. I have tried several of the UE4 demos and UT with i965 (Intel) and it seems to be working fine. Sure, it's a bit slow, but it definitely works.

Hope the problem with r600g isn't too hard to fix, would be interesting if anyone tried it with radeonsi or nouveau.

I keep trying UT too, All I get is weird graphic bugs, fine in menu. Soon as you start looks like the scene is been smudged...

Very peculiar . That's on a 290x with fglrx(14.12)

People always talk about alpha games having lower performance because they are "unoptimized". How much of a difference might that actually make in the final version?
I get pretty low FPS when there's 20 or so people in the server.

The new map looks amazing though. I'm really glad they decided to go with visual clarity instead of all the washed out color and post processing effects of most modern shooters.

Try with & without the "-opengl4" bit on the end. I get what you describe with -opengl4 and a radeon 6950, but it works fine with a kaveri.

Just hard locks when I try without the -opengl4

Runs and looks surprisingly well on an NVIDIA GTX 660 Ti! It seems to run smoother and look better than any other game for Linux - very impressive! :D
