Cortex Command is a game that came with a Humble Indie Bundle quite some time ago, sadly the Linux version fell behind a lot (last update in 2012). Looks like that could end soon, woo!

I am unsure if their direct purchase option on their official website has a more up to date version, but the one from the Humble Indie Bundle hasn't been updated since 2012.

A developer currently working on it stated this on twitter:

Got sound working OK in the Linux version of Cortex Command. :)

Short, sweet, and to the point!

About the game
A project over eleven years in the making, Cortex Command has rich 2D pixel graphics coupled with an extremely detailed physics engine, which allows for highly replayable and emergent real-time action. There is also a turn-based strategic campaign mode which ties the tactical fights together, featuring persistent terrains that will accumulate the battle scars, debris, and bunker ruins through your entire campaign.

Choose from several unique technology factions, each featuring their own sets of expendable soldier bodies, mechas, weapons, tools, and landing craft. Protect your brain, mine the gold, and destroy the enemy cortex in his bunker complex!

You can check out Cortex Command on Steam here.

I saw the game appear in my Linux library on Steam yesterday. Didn't try to install and start it, though, maybe the executable is missing.

This was the guy than was working on "The Stanley Parable" Linux port. So what happened with it? Was it dropped?

Hey isn't this guy the one who got harassed about stanley parable?
Liam Dawe Apr 4, 2015
Yes it's the same guy, and no update that I know of other than it's delayed due to Linux users trolling the developer.

Hint: Be nice to developers.

Well this isn't exactly fair… I'm pretty sure windows users are no better, and those linux users don't represent me.

Awesome game. I am surprised to see that they are still working on Linux. I don't like the way the devs handled their Linux customers. They kept us out of the loop. I bought this game when it came out for Linux expecting support. I got one buggy release and no news while Windows got release after release for years. I may be a bit butt hurt about it, but I don't see this game being support much on Linux.

Buyer beware!
