For the Star Wars fans who missed it, Star Wars: Tie Fighter Special Edition & Star Wars X-Wing Special Edition are available DRM free on GOG for Linux.
I didn't even realise they put the Linux version of these up, as they don't generally do a lot of announcements for games that get Linux versions. As a big Star Wars fan, I applaud this move.
I have some fond memories of trying to play them both, and being the worst pilot ever. Can't wait to try again now I'm a bit older.
Check Star Wars: Tie Fighter Special Edition, and also Star Wars X-Wing Special Edition on GOG.com.
Will you be checking them out, or are they a bit too retro for your taste buds?
Some you may have missed, popular articles from the last month:
Quoting: HamishDark Forces is also on sale for Linux:

And while not counting as a Linux sale, you can also get Jedi Outcast and Jedi Academy to use in a source port thanks to Raven's source code release:

http://www.gog.com/game/star_wars_jedi_knight_jedi_academy
So you can really get your fill of Star Wars games from GOG at the moment.
We also have the Rebel Assault games for Linux :)

Quoting: ShmerlHi Judas, nice to see you visiting GOL :) Just an idea - I think it would be good to provide more exposure for games which get a version for an OS which wasn't available before (for instance Linux, OS X, etc.).
If that stream is reserved for initial releases only, then another idea is to make another stream on the front page, for backlog subreleases. Shouldn't be hard either, but it would improve usability and discoverability immensely. I'll probably make a wishlist entry for that.
Thanks for the welcome, Shmerl :) Also, you were missing in the update thread where I made that post about the TIE Fighter/X-Wing games getting Linux-compatible versions, usually you are the first to reply. I think you are slacking :P
As for the first part of the quote:
Personally speaking, we should reserve that for Linux native games instead of just hyping up DOS versions that were made Linux compatible via DOSBox (thank you AWESOME DOSBox!). The last time we hyped up some games that got a Linux compatible version, people were mighty ticked off that those were not native Linux versions but Wine wrapped Windows versions (I can't recall atm which games those were but you get the idea...)
The stream is reserved for initial releases and we do our best to mention all three supported operating systems but there are times that a Linux version gets delayed for whatever reason so we can't honestly advertise on the front page that there is a Linux version on our site. We do try to let people know that the Linux version is coming but only if we are 100% sure that we won't be waiting forever and a day for it.
As for general promotion of actual native versions, we do what we can whether it's via Twitter or Facebook and I think some of our community twitch.tv streamers are confirmed penguins so they do their part as well :)

Quoting: JudasIscariotHi guys,
Judas from GOG here :)
Just wanted to comment on this part:
Quotethey don't generally do a lot of announcements for games that get Linux versions.
We didn't get too much of a chance to do a HUGE announcement as I've posted an update in our "what just updated" thread ( http://www.gog.com/forum/general/the_what_did_just_update_thread/post7829 ) and we were generally rolling out a slew of updates for other Star Wars games, mostly new language additions :)
If you have any questions, feel free to ask here or in the GOG forums :)
Any chance of a Wing commander port to Linux ? Its something I really miss from the Amiga days, Just port whatever the best sound and graphics version was.
Also .. GOG galaxy is something I think a lot of people are looking forward to, but with 1200 games on Steam for Linux, surely those Devs / publishers would want to get on your platform too ? its hardly any work to email some files over and have more customer coverage so i cant see it being a problem ( unless valve start making publishers sign a steam only licence EULA )

Quoting: GuestQuoting: JudasIscariotWe didn't get too much of a chance to do a HUGE announcementHi, it’s great to see someone from GOG here. It would be great if GOG provided an RSS feed for new Linux games and Linux games on sale, because the main (and only?) RSS feed is pretty much useless as the articles never state if the games are for Linux. And I see it also contains the same article in 4 different languages… Not very convenient.
That's what I just wanted to propose too :) Probably there should be an RSS feed for every supported OS (and may be a combined one, or some way to set a custom filter with several OSes). That would satisfy most users.

Wing Commander on Linux, hmm, I don't know. That's up to the publisher, EA, as we can't make Linux-compatible versions on our own without the legal backing, sorry :/
As for Galaxy, I think it will do well with devs/pubs :) It's in its infancy at the moment but give it time as it's too early to really give any solid information about it :)

With regards to complaints about dosbox/wine/etc. releases, I don’t know, stating that they are dosbox/wine/etc. releases and the original release date of the game should help? :) I don’t mind Wine releases (Flatout works perfectly for me), but I had many troubles with one of your DOSBox games so I’m avoiding them now.
Regarding the RSS feed, I recommend making a wishlist entry on our wishlist :) I have never even been anywhere near anything RSS so I am not one to talk about it :) (I am old school and RSS is strange and incomprehensible to me unlike Mint 17 :D)
As for labeling, we already do so for the Wine games along with ScummVM. I mentioned the complaints only because there were some grumblings during our initial launch but I think that MAY have been because of the lack of a given label :) In short, we want to avoid pulling the "Yes, it's TOTALLY the Linux version of the game...don't mind the Wine..." card on people who are very technically literate :)
If you had troubles with one of our DOSBox games, why did you not write to Support? We are quite willing to help and we have competent staff that know their Linux. In fact, I wrote a support ticket for one of our games because a) I am still learning how games are put together in Linux as opposed to Windows and b) it was a really weird issue that required a lot of diving into logs and files and so on :) So, take it from me, our Support is awesome!

Thanks for pointing out that it's on GNU/Linux now. I was looking at this the other day and thought "meh", I'll pass for now if it's Windows-only. Now I'll just have to buy it.
