The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is a gorgeous looking exploration and mystery game that will be moved to Unreal Engine 4. The developers stated they hope this will make a Linux port easier.

QuoteHi everyone,

just to make the things clear and official: We are currently moving The Vanishing of Ethan Carter to a new engine, Unreal Engine 4, that should make it – hypothetically – easier to port the game to Mac and Linux. Once we know more details, we will inform our wonderful community, probably in 2-3 months. :)

Quite exciting! It’s been well received and the developers did mention last year that they would look into a Linux port.

Check out The Vanishing of Ethan Carter on Steam. Just don’t buy it until the Linux version is 100% confirmed and out the door.

Thanks for the tip DrMcCoy! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Very nice! I had this game on my "to-buy-list", before i switched to linux. This was a game that I had very little hope it would ever show up as a linux-title.

This game has done some pretty revolutionary things with graphics. From what I've seen, the photo-realistic textures are ridiculous and they use some crazy techniques like taking ultra high resolution 3d images of real life textures and put them into the game, which makes every rock and piece of moss look insanely realistic. Worth checking out:

Sweet. I've been wanting to play this ever since it was announced. I may be able to in the future.

To me the question is if this update will be available for free or if this comes with pay-again metro-redux-style.

I hope it's free to current owners! I already own the game on GOG, but I've never managed to get it working very well in WINE, so I've not really played it yet.

It kind of goes without saying, I'd love to see it come to Linux!

This deserves a happy dance! I've been following their wonderful dev-logs for some time, feeling sad every time knowing that they weren't planning a Linux release, but now is a time of rejoicing! :D
