We knew that Larian was working on something big that stopped their work on the Linux version, and now we know what.

Reminder: They still have no release date for Linux, and their last communication on it was that the Linux version was stopped while this was going on. Still seems to be the same, so we have more waiting. That’s not me putting any kind of spin on it, as they stated it directly before.

It sounds like a beefy update though, and actually makes me a little bit more excited to see it finally arrive on Linux. It's not really an update, but a new game in itself and will be a free addition to anyone who owns the original on PC. Not that we've been able to even play that yet mind you.

QuoteAs well as local co-op, split screen and controller support, the Enhanced Edition also features:
All characters are now fully voiced by AAA-voice actors
New quests, new characters, and new content
Entirely new gameplay modes and character builds
A heavily rewritten story with a brand new ending
Massively reworked visuals and sound effects
And much more to be announced in the coming months!

The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too.

I just hope we aren’t left waiting another year for it to arrive on Linux.

"some day", "when it's done", "much more to be announced in the coming months", this all sounds like it'll take some time still. So yeah, I do expect to wait another year.

"The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too."

This makes me scared. I hope the UI will be adjustable or have modes to accomodate both controllers and m&kb. My fear is that the UI will be full controller-centric and I'll have to play this with m&kb with a ****ty "streamlined" UI for controllers that doesn't let me take advantage of the fact that I have more than 12 buttons to work with.

Maybe that will turn out to be a high profile Kickstarter Linux-SCAM.
I'm glad we have Pillars of Eternity. A fantastic game in the same vein.

P.S.

"... and will be a free addition to anyone who knows the original on PC."

--> "owns"?

They don't have time to work on a port for 2nd grade citizens, because they doing glorious PS4 and X1 port , so everybody calm down, 3-4 years and maybe Linux version coming too. Nice job.

Seems shady that they are now doing PS4 and XB1 ports before releasing the promised Linux version that the people who backed the kickstarter already paid for.

It doesn't "seem" shady.. it IS shady. It is also the reason for the "UI" changes and the controller support. I'm sure the menu system is now terrible for M&K users. If lucky you can choose.

I think it's kind of obvious - they'll port the enhanced version instead of the original. That is why they stopped the porting process - why bother port the older version. The release would probably coincide perfectly with the Steam Machines' release . I for one, applaud them for adding controller support and porting the game for consoles. The less platform exclusives there are - the better. Just as I'd like to see God of War or Red Dead Redemption make it to PC, I'd be happy if console gamers had the chance to properly play games like Wasteland 2 or Divinity.

The update I got (as a kickstarter backer who was "tricked" with the promise of a linux version) is this: "Today we are very excited to announce Divinity: Original Sin Enhanced Edition for PS4 and Xbox One as well as PC, Mac, SteamOS and Linux"

So at least they are still saying "we'll make it for linux one day!". Hopefully that is true.

This is a real slap in the face to their backers who supported the game because of the promise of a Linux version. This is why I'm always cautioning people to avoid Kickstarter and "early access", because there is zero accountability and zero incentive for the developers to actually make good on their promises once they have your money.
