We knew that Larian was working on something big that stopped their work on the Linux version, and now we know what.
Reminder: They still have no release date for Linux, and their last communication on it was that the Linux version was stopped while this was going on. Still seems to be the same, so we have more waiting. That’s not me putting any kind of spin on it, as they stated it directly before.
It sounds like a beefy update though, and actually makes me a little bit more excited to see it finally arrive on Linux. It's not really an update, but a new game in itself and will be a free addition to anyone who owns the original on PC. Not that we've been able to even play that yet mind you.

The full gamepad support makes me very happy, especially as they have adjusted the UI for it too.

I definitely agree on being cautious, but I think it also depends on what engine they are using. D: OS uses their own custom engine, so they have to build Linux support from scratch. On the other hand, Bloodstained will use UE4 which supports Linux, so I'm relatively confident that they'll be able to deliver a Linux version. Umbra uses cryengine and say they'll support Linux. Cryengine Linux support is new, but by the time the game is ready making a Linux version is hopefully relatively straight-forward.
Maybe I'm still too naive, but I think kickstarter is a good thing for gaming in general (gave us Shadowrun and Pillars), and I want to support developers who support Linux.

I've recently finished Pillars of eternity, could use another game, but I'm not holding my hopes high with this title… Would be nice, I suppose. But then again, I still have a Freedom planet for now even if it's not an RPG :}

Wasteland 2 is excellent - I enjoyed it more than Pillars of Eternity which I found a bit opaque in terms of putting an effective team together. Some of the fight in PoE are just game-stoppers if you haven't pre-healed your characters and even others are almost "quit and restart" challenging if your team isn't effective. I found that a bit off putting.
To all the Kickstarter naysayers, I think you're over-reacting. Sure, I think we were taken on a ride by some developers who have no track record on Linux. I could mention 7 Days to Die, Contagion or Skullgirls here. But for each such set back, there's been several solid deliveries - Wasteland 2, Shadowrun, Pillars of Eternity or any of the Double Fine entries. And of course while it's easy to be disillusioned after so long, let's not forget that many of the no-shows are still promising to try to get something out of the door, so it's not all doom and gloom.

Nuclear post-apocalypse isn't my thing.
Your party automatically heals after every battle using your remaining health, or do you mean health itself? The only thing I hated, personally, was last level Caed Nua boss, dealing "lol you die" area damage is way too cheap. I did beat it eventually, though.

I'd say it was kind of a "second chance" to make the Linux version a "day-1" release with this "Enhance Edition".
By stating Linux support in the Kickstarter campaign, common sense would suggest that this is one of the top priorities for Larian, no matter what the economical side and legal situation tells you. Otherwise you're just a bunch of a**holes.

This makes me scared. I hope the UI will be adjustable or have modes to accomodate both controllers and m&kb. My fear is that the UI will be full controller-centric and I'll have to play this with m&kb with a ****ty "streamlined" UI for controllers that doesn't let me take advantage of the fact that I have more than 12 buttons to work with.
Same here. "Game controller/console support" and "dumbed down garbage UI" go hand in hand almost 100% of the time. I hope that's not the case here.

Ah, yeah, I meant mage-like abilities. All that once-per-rest abilities stuff was just tedious.

Except they can totally make 2 separate sets of interfaces - for keyboard and mouse and for controller. Like it was done in the Van Helsing games. I don't know what's dumbed down and what isn't, but it's a nice change after working a whole day hunched over a keyboard to kickback with a gamepad in my hand.

Theoretically - sure, they could. But most games don't. The 'economic' way of solving it is meeting at the least common denominator, which is the console/gamepad. A proper second UI would cost money, after all. Which is why I tend to cringe whenever I see that one of the games I am looking forward to will have a console port or gamepad support.
Two prime examples for horrible, "dumbed down by console" UIs are Skyrim and DC Universe Online. In the end, consoles/gamepads aren't the most suitable platform for complex games, and that includes RPGs and strategy games. A gamepad is something I'd use for platformers and racing games. I have no idea why anyone would want to play a RPG with one, but maybe it's just me.
