The day has arrived, not only do we have a new DLC for Dying Light, but the Linux performance patch I previewed for you has also been released! To quote a film I saw recently “what a lovely day!”.
The new DLC is “Dying Light: The Bozak Horde” which is something we also posted about recently, but now it’s actually here and has day-1 Linux support.
I’ve been pleased by Techland’s progress, and their communication is getting slightly better. Dying Light didn't have the best release, but unlike some developers they have actually kept pushing at it!
I did a review of Dying Light on Linux, and I still stand by it. The gameplay is great, but the ending was terrible.
Patch 1.0.6 changelog below, but weirdly it doesn't mention performance fixes for Linux. I tested it to double check and the Linux performance fixes are in there, and the AA setting has returned! I've poked my Techland contact to get the patch notes sorted properly, odd that we aren't even mentioned when it's a huge change for us.
Update: They added the Linux notes in after I emailed them.
The developer mentioned to me that AMD's Linux GPU drivers aren't great for Dying Light on Linux, but they will continue to look for optimizations they can do themselves.

Quoting: pete910wonder what it's like for us AMD guys/gals....
Not sure yet, I be know in the morning, when I have access to my main PC with Dying Light.
Previous patch meant that the game was not playable. FPS very weak on the HD5850, the lack of facial NPC and of every few minutes appears green incandescence pixels that the moments causes the game to crash.
I think, however if so they posted that, I think they nothing improved for the AMD GPU user : / but I check this morning, but I have a bad feeling about this.

Quoting: TheReaperUKHave you unpacked the data0.pak into the out folder in the past, if so delete the data folder from the out folder, then Verify files on Steam.
I have no idea what you're talking about, so I assume not :P. I never did any quick fixes or workarounds to the game, just sort of looked at what a bad state it was in then gave up on it. I have tonnes of better stuff in my library, I'd rather just wait for them to do the work and play less buggy games in the mean time.

Quoting: Segata SanshiroWell, it now works with good framerates at high settings, but have this annoying issue where shadows appear and disappear very quickly right in front of me even when they're only a metre or two away. So going to have to wait for another patch... So close this time, it's such a minor issue but can see that getting soooo annoying even after a few minutes of playing that I'm not even going to bother...
LOL, I'm sorry for you but I'm glad to know I'm not the only one having those shadow flickering issue, which is very annoying indeed. I used to disable the sun shadows completely, the game gets a bit ugly but at least is playable on my low end hardware (gtx550ti)

Well, this patch has zero improvement to me. I still got the same crap 15-20 fps with everything on low at 1080p, chganging to 720p makes little to no difference, maybe 2fps gain and thats it. I was in hope it could make at least ~30fps, but to achieve this I still need to remove the sun shadows, which makes impossible to play coop =(
Edit: And keeps crashing when Alt+Tab =/
Edit 2: close mouths bug is back? On the quest Tunnel Vision the guy on the tower talks but the lips dont move... oh gosh

Hm, patch seems good but for some reason resolution is now fixed. that means while performance in 1080p is probably improved it' still unplayable and new I cannot switch to 720p anymore :-(
any ideas?

GeForce GTX 765M/PCIe/SSE2

Tested the new update as well. The performance is higher and now there is an option to turn on SSAO. Unfortunately with SSAO the framerate takes a hit.

Hoping to see more performance improvements. This experience has made me not want to buy Techland games in the future.

Well, there is a performance improvement and it does look better.
Thing is, whatever performance we gained is consumed by those effects previously absent, so in the end (for me at least) the performance is indeed increased, but not by much.
I have now around 80-120 FPS with brief dips to 55-60 in the Old Town, which is very similar with what I had previously.
All in all though I'm very satisfied by this update, we got SSAO back (yay) and some other nice touches like rain drops on cars/walls etc.
(the sixth sense distortion wave is still absent though)
What can I say, the game looks awesome now and is totally playable.
I'm now running everything on max except Distance and Antialiasing.
The annoying thing with Antialiasing is that it creates a ugly blur (it does it on Windows too) so I prefer to force FXAA from the Nvidia control panel.
Oh, and I'm also not crazy about motion blur and chromatic aberration, so I got them removed.

The issue for me, and others commenting here, is the constant dropping into 30-40 range, which makes the framerate very unstable.

I'll let you know what the performance is when the game actually starts :\ I've been waiting for about 5 minutes now; the loading bar is full, but it's still not starting...
