The highly anticipated GOG Galaxy client has arrived for Windows & Mac in beta form, but sadly not for Linux yet. They do mention we will get it "eventually" though in their FAQ:

It's always a shame when we are kept waiting, but everyone does need to keep in mind we are the minority, and we aren't going to be a big earner for GOG.
What is GOG Galaxy?
GOG GALAXY is a fully optional client to install, play and update your games. It also offers online multiplayer, achievements, chat, game-time tracking and more - but it’s up to you which features you want to use.
It promises to be quite like the Steam client, only optional. GOG will still allow totally DRM free downloads.
I think one of the most exciting features is the cross-play between GOG and Steam online. It's one of the great strengths of the PC to allow things like this, while Microsoft and Sony lock down their online platforms.

Well, the cross-play feature is the really interesting feature.
If I can buy a game on GoG but still play it together with my steam friends, I might consider some games there if they have a better price.
But tbh, I am perfectly happy with steam as a platform at the moment.

It will be nice when they get that Linux client released, haven't had any luck with running it in WINE. And that whole cross-play with Steam thing is kind of interesting.

Once Galaxy is out, it will join Steam and Konversation in being active for as long as my PC is on.

I'm waiting for them to publish the protocol spec. Then it would be an interesting project to create an open client. I'm not going to use theirs, as long as it will remain closed.

Steam had me 500 games ago, and unless they make a GOGOS Linux distro, GOG Machines, and GOG Controllers as well as importing my Steam library, things will not change for me. I do wish them much success, and I hope they pressure Valve into opening up a bit more, though it'll take a lot to shake Valve - they're quite the behemoth. A behemoth that seemingly values Linux, though.

I think they still have to add the auto-update functionality to the Windows client. I actually got into the closed beta a few months back but I think I turned the thing up, like, once. It's alright and will do what it's supposed to but don't expect Steam and its fancy stuff. It's a very Spartan client to say the least. Still, it will make GoG a more viable option for me when the auto-update feature is added. I refuse to play anything that required me to manually update it :).
