New Linux Gaming Survey For May

By -
It's that time of the month again Linux gamers! The new GOL survey for May is now available, so please make sure to fill it in if you have the time.

The results of the previous (April) survey will be published in the next couple of days. Thanks for filling that one out, we got a record breaking number of responses last month!

You can find the link for the new survey here, and please share with other Linux gamers if you can! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

I think there should be an "other" option on the two unique questions.

Filled it out... Can't wait to see the stats from last month's survey.

I agree. I would have like to answer "I use steam but don't care" for the mod question.

Yeah, I too would have fit much better in an "I use steam but don't care / have an opinion" option.

I added the option now. I generally don't like adding stuff after publishing it, but considering we have 90 responses and had 2000 last month and the unique questions aren't there to be compared month-by-month, I'll make the exception since it's a good suggestion :).

Yeah... Come to think of it I probably would have chosen that answer too :P

Also, if anyone feels like posting this on Reddit, it would be a big help. Basically, the months when it gets posted there's always a lot more responses, which in turn also changes the demographic of the sample (ie, not all the people there will read GOL, not all of them will be as enthusiastic about Linux or games as people here, or vice-versa, etc) so ideally the survey needs to be posted there every month for us to get accurate results.

"Did you exclusively buy Linux games last month?"
"Yes/No"

How about "I didn't buy any games last month"?
Unless activating my copy of Pillars of Eternity counts, which I backed way back when.

EDIT: Also, a number of games run better under Wine then natively on my system, take that for what it's worth.

Quoting: apocalyptechYeah, I too would have fit much better in an "I use steam but don't care / have an opinion" option.

In my case I would have liked the option "weakly oppose", since on the one hand it's not something that really concerns me (very, very rarely use any mod anyway) but on the other hand the whole concept feels a bit off to me, since I've always considered "mod" to be practically a synonym for "free", as opposed to the paid for alternatives: dlc/expansion/official content.

Still, it's more of a gut feeling than a well reasoned argument, so I picked "don't care", although that's not quite a 100% true. ;-)

I should probably clarify for these types of questions that you can SKIP questions which don't apply to you. For data purposes, it's better if people do that instead of a separate option. I'll make sure to clarify that underneath those questions which might not apply to everyone.
