New Linux Gaming Survey For May

It's that time of the month again Linux gamers! The new GOL survey for May is now available, so please make sure to fill it in if you have the time.

About the author -
After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

The Virtual Programming port question is a really terrible.

The question really should be something like "Do you support the use of graphic API translation layers/shims in porting games to Linux?"

(Of course that would apply to DX9 Togl games which nobody seems to have an issue with.)

"Terrible" was such an unnecessarily strong word. The VP ports are what's on everyone's mind in this respect, especially with the new game announced just recently. It's as good a representation of all layers as any.

"Games using Wine wrappers (such as The Witcher 2)" – this is wrong, Witcher 2 is not using wine. Perhaps you could change that to System Shock 2, where it is indeed the case?

Except that togl isn't an external wrapper. It's built into the game executable itself and working on the code level, not intercepting and translating d3d calls on the fly. There's a difference.

No, your suggested question would probably confuse people due to technobabble language. People need to remember that probably a good 90% of gamers and people filling it out won't even know what an API is.
