The Mega Man inspired platformer was supposed to be released this spring. After signing with a publisher, the developer has now announced a new release date.

Mighty No. 9 is the upcoming game produced by Mega Man co-designer Keiji Inafune, and was a runaway hit on Kickstarter in 2013, where they managed to reach almost $4 million.
After the spring estimate slipped, they have now announced that they're partnering up with publisher Deep Silver to add testing and polish to the game and add additional voice overs and subtitles. Backers of the game will also get the Ray DLC, which adds an extra playable character, a boss and a level. According to the announcement, we can now expect a September release.

Although aware of it, I hadn't really looked into this much... Largely because I was only sort-of a Mega Man fan (though I've never played the "Mega Man X" games, which are supposedly much better than the originals).
I have to admit though, I just watched the video above and this sure looks impressive!
As long as this comes to Linux-based operating systems, I think I might pickup a copy...

Allow me to disagree! I think the very best Mega Man were released on the NES and the B&W GameBoy. Mega Man's famous gameplay truly unfolds when you keep it simple, really, that's why all 3D adaptations failed. Mega Man X was really great graphics-wise and story-wise, though and the spin-off Mega Man X: Command Mission was a true gem.
This aside, I'm really looking forward to playing this on my rig!!!

I loved the classic Mega Man games.
But graphics and gameplay of this new game aren't my cup of tea.
To be honest graphics look uninspired and awfully passionless to the point
where it is a shame if the really made $4 million on Kickstarter alone.

Sorry guys, I think that's Nostalgia talking, they were all good and I like the alternate direction they went with Battle Network. Their experiment in Random Encounter real time combat grid based RPG with turn based elements worked very well. Here's a little experiment, find a 10-year-old kid that love Minecraft and Five Nights at Freddy's Megaman Classic, Megaman X and Battle Network and S/He would say they're all great and they're different games. S/He would tell which game they liked better, but say they're all great but might compare Megaman Classic to Megaman X and say Megaman Classic has more primitive controls than Megaman X, but I bet they would have a blast with either or. I would of put Megaman Legends in there for further comparison, but I never played it.
