Thanks to my friends at Techland I have been able to test the upcoming Linux performance patch. It’s looking mighty fine right now.

I’ve been allowed to share the information with you GOL readers, and it’s quite exciting.

On the same settings across both the old and new private beta patch, the performance difference is quite amazing. This new patch will also add back the Anti-aliasing option (hooray!), and even with that turned on with the new patch the difference was still shocking. I’ve noticed a 20-30FPS increase, and sometimes even higher than that depending on what is going on.

Scenes that previously gave 30-40 have been hitting 60FPS and I’ve seen it go above 90FPS now too.

Specs: Nvidia 970, Intel i5 4670K.

Here’s some screenshots on the current version:

Now notice the framerate on the new patch to come:

It’s quite hard to get truly accurate screenshots with the game time changing, and video is a no-go as the performance hit isn’t fair to the game while recording. The game is vastly smoother in general.

I'm pretty damn impressed in how much better it performs with their work, and hope everyone will be able to enjoy it soon.

They are still working on it, and a few bits left to do, but it’s coming. It's still a pretty demanding game, just the Linux version won't be so overly demanding in future.

That just sounds like a certain AMD rep on a rather popular Overclocking forum ;)

All though when asking Q's about *nix drivers you get ignored :><: :(

Dunno why this game was trashed on so much, it's absolutely heaps of fun. Sure it takes itself too seriously, but it's one of the best co-op experiences there is.

And the gameplay? It's glorious. All you need to know is that you can dropkick basically any time you are mid-air. That is all. :)

This game more than any other affirms my decision to pay the extra money and get an Nvidia card for my new LInux box. Sure, the game fps are between 35 - 45, but that's an eminently playable rate in my book, so I've been playing the dickens out of it. (Mind you, I'm running it on a 4th gen i7 with an Nvidia GTX 750ti and 8GB RAM, considerably more than the game's recommended requirements).

I think the game's minimum requirements are pretty beefy, yet I can still get a playable experience out of my older i3 machine (GTX 650) but all the settings must be low or off, and even then it's a bit stuttery at times. I'll be interested to see what improvements come to this lower end machine. Hopefully the game will be able to be enjoyably played by more people as time goes on. It really is a lot of fun.

I finished the game this week, and the performance was good with a 5+ year old i7 and a newish nvidia 970.

My experience is that many complaints about linux game performance issues are exaggerated or coming from people with AMD gfx cards, which to be honest just isn't the best choice for gaming.

I finished the witcher 2 before the last patch too, using the same i7 and nvidia 560, it too was working just fine.
