Unique 90s FPS 'MadSpace' Available On Linux

By -
MadSpace: To Hell and Beyond is a rather obscure late 90s sci-fi FPS/Space combat game. Thanks to Night Dive Studios this rather unique game has been re-released and is now available on Steam.

SteamNews has come back to Earth of an intergalactic war rapidly approaching. A Krakin spacecraft is rapidly approaching Earth. After Humans and their Kerkop allies take one last stand against their enemies, they are victorious but the Krakin ship still remains. The Kerkop flee and Mankind is left on the edge of extinction. There is only one hope left. You.

You are a member of the Proteus army, robotic soldiers with the souls of former humans that have given up everything to fight the menance. You have to destroy the ship and whatever evil remains lurking within. Are you up for the challenge of saving the entire human race from extinction?

This one is pretty unique insofar older FPS games go. Off the top of my head it's the only game from that era incorporates non-euclidean
geometry into its design; environments can have intersecting parallel lines and the total degrees of a triangle can be greater than 180 for
instance. Not only that but the gameplay combines both space combat sequences with more traditional stretches of shooting and blowing stuff up.

I had never heard of MadSpace until this re-release and I was a big fan of 90s shooters back in the day. What makes this title extra
enticing for me is that Oleg Maddox of IL-2 Sturmovik fame worked on it.

Kudos to Night Dive Studios for bringing another older title to both Steam and Linux. They've already brought us a bevy of classic games including older Sid Meier games and System Shock 2.

History, sci-fi, technology, cooking, writing and playing games are things I enjoy very much. I'm always keen to try different genres of games and discover all the gems out there.

Oh and the name doesn't mean anything but coincidentally could be pronounced as "Buttery" which suits me just fine.

Is it another Wine port (eg: System Shock 2)?

Not actually, it's a DOSBox port.
