This is what I have been waiting for! Dota 2 has officially announced a major engine update and a slick new UI.

QuoteToday we are announcing the Dota 2 Reborn beta, which brings with it a new interface, new engine, and Custom Games. Everything in the dashboard has been redesigned utilizing a new UI framework and the engine that powers the game has been fully replaced. On this page we will be giving you a preview of the new interface. Early next week we'll be talking about Custom Games, and later that week we'll conclude with various details about the new engine and launch the open beta.

They don’t specifically say Source 2, but it’s obvious it will be. There’s a lot more to the update, so I suggest you check out the official site official site for the full scoop.

I will be sure to give it a proper spin when it’s out, and when I have the internet back as I am still currently on a very limited connection. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

Really great news. An update without Source 2 makes absolutely no sense, so Source 2 Dota 2 (aka Dota 2.1 ;-) ) confirmed.

I'm really curious to see what Vulkan will make to DOTA2's performance. I can't wait.

I can only imagine that this will be the first game to fully take advantage of Vulkan, once Vulkan has finished baking in the oven.

Vulkan is basically the next iteration of OpenGL.

Pretty obviously a change to allow for better controller support, with their Steamboxes coming soon :P

So, the Dota 2 Reborn beta is supposed to be available but I can't install it. When I go to the Play tab, I have a black block where there's supposed to be a beta button (according to the video from the game's blog).

Is it Windows-only? Is there a problem on my side?

EDIT: oh, I hadn't seen this on the page: "We're still putting the finishing touches on the Mac and Linux clients and we hope to have them available in the coming weeks."

Too bad. :(
