In case you've been living under a rock recently, Bethesda have announced Fallout 4 with the release date on 10 November. Some observant people out there may have noticed that this is also the release date for Steam Machines.

Now while this is most likely a coincidence (a lot of stuff comes out at that time of year for the holiday season), I'm sure every Fallout fan out there has a small part of them that wishes this is due to it being a Steam Machines "launch title" and these rumours have been appearing on the Steam forums and elsewhere.

This wishful thinking is understandable since not only would this be awesome for those of us who want to play the game on Linux, but also since having a developer like Bethesda on board would be a massive breakthrough for Linux gaming.

I for one will remain cautiously sceptical, but it is a very tantalising prospect and, considering we're getting some huge AAA games which many of us never expected to come to Linux, it also makes sense not to rule anything out.

It could be a secret project from Aspyr Media, Feral Interactive or other well known game porters. We haven't heard anything on it though.

Let's keep our fingers crossed but not get our hopes up too much! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

About the author -
After many years of floating through space on the back of a missile, following a successful career in beating people up for not playing Sega Saturn, the missile returned to earth. Upon returning, I discovered to my dismay that the once great console had been discontinued and Sega had abandoned the fight to dominate the world through 32-bit graphical capabilities.

After spending some years breaking breeze blocks with my head for money and being mocked by strangers, I have found a new purpose: to beat up people for not playing on Linux.

Quoting: KeizgonActually, the more I think about it, it probably isn't coming to Linux. Remember the failure of the paid mods? When Gabe publicly stated on a reddit post (you can Google it), he stated that the drama and uproar around it costed them a butt load a cash (millions). Many were sceptical and assumed he meant customer service, but I believe the possibility of Valve losing Bethesda's confidence may have costed them some relations damage because Bethesda got a lot of shit from their customers as well.

However, I could be wrong. He could have meant anything, really.

This is actually a very good point, but like the dates thing it's also probably also a coincidence (I hope, because it would make me very, very sad if it were the case), but yeah I really like the logic :)

Quoting: PeciskI personally think that's coincidence - or just Microsoft trolling Valve big time (Fallout 4 was featured *very* visibly during XBO show). They also roll out their own DRM, so it might even be that they will deny Steam access to Fallout 4.

But Fallout 4 is already on steam: http://store.steampowered.com/app/377160/

The only thing that helps me believe is that this might not be Carmack's gang anymore since he moved on to Sellout VR

I think this is not a coincidence, I think this is just a bad joke

So you write an article about the coinciding dates, which will obviously get peoples' hopes up, yet you tell people not to get their hopes up. You see how these things conflict?

Is there a number 3 in date? Maybe we will get HF 3 too.

10.11. - I found a three one's, so HF 3 is confirmed!

I think that is a coincidence. There aren't Bethesda games ported, and I don't see plans or rumours on that. A lot of people wants Bethesda AAA titles ported (Dishonored, Fallout, Skyrim...) and they never answer questions about this in Steam, Forums, Petitions or emails.

What is HF? Half-Fallout?

NOT.GOING.TO.HAPPEN.EVER!!! :))). There will be a rain gold before Bethesda ports Fallout 4 to Linux (especially as a day one release).

I dont believe in coincidences. Would bethesda want to sabotage steamOS machines on launch day? Well, they were in bed pretty close when the announcement of paid mods for skyrim. That makes me think that they get along... and that the picking of the date was no coincidence...

Actually, the more I think about it, it probably isn't coming to Linux. Remember the failure of the paid mods? At least there is Wasteland 2.

Could you link it to me? All I found was the improvised Saturday PR stunt he had to make but im not able to read what you say anywhere...

I still dont believe in these kind of coincidences. Either they get along with steam or they dont. I refuse to believe that bethesda is playing the 'im too dumb and self involved to check the calendar before i pick up my release date' card.

For me, playing in the same field (videogames) and both playing in the first league and out of a holiday date, is a very hostile movement to release on the same day if you are not going to release for my platform. Bethesda might be in a strong enough position not to give a fuck about steam... but why create yourself a powerful enemy like that unnecessarily? Even if they fucked up the launch, they still know better than the rest...

if you release a week before or later, nobody is going to think that you are being hostile and you still do about the same damage to the launch of the other product stealing its thunder.

The only reason i can think of is that a third player like microsoft + the competence have put a shit-ton of money on bethesda's table in order to damage the competence. Old habits die hard and i think ms still pull off these kind of movements to get deals daily. Some people even think they are legit movements for an enterprise...
