A free standalone(-ish, I'll talk about that a bit later) Portal 2 mod called Portal Stories: Mel has been released on Steam. So those who want more Portal can get it in the form of 22 levels and approx. 6-10 hours of gameplay.

Portal Stories: Mel tells the story of Mel, a test subject of Aperture in the 1950s who is supposed to test the Aperture Science Short-Term Relaxation Vault, a device that is supposed to induce sleep and relaxation in mere seconds. And, as usual, the experiment fails horribly and you wake up in the ruins of the Aperture Science facility. You meet a personality core who guides you through the facility to escape. Yes, it also has portals and a very retro Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device.

The mod comes completely free of charge and is standalone, meaning that you do not need to have Portal 2 installed. However, you do need to own Portal 2 in order to play the mod. I'm guessing that is the way they could ship it for free. The modification offers an entirely new story, entirely new levels and a new original soundtrack, which also comes free of charge.

I've played a bit of the mod and it seems to be specifically aimed at people who played Portal 2. There is very little tutorial stuff, you are expected to know what you are doing. And the difficulty curve is pretty steep. But I think it's a wonderful little mod for people who want more Portal because there can never be enough Portal. There was a bug in the original release which was missing some Linux files to make the mod work but that has now been patched in.

So, go ahead and get the mod. Your only reason for not getting it would be not owning Portal 2, which would already be a sin in itself. By the way, anyone up for some cake?

Just tried this game, but it alwas crashes on start with

X Error of failed request:  BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)
Major opcode of failed request:  42 (X_SetInputFocus)
Serial number of failed request:  1638
Current serial number in output stream:  1640

Any ideas?

It's an update ArchLinux system with

xserver 1.17.2
Catalsyt 15.7
awesome WM.

I saw an old similar bug report with NVidia so this seems
not related to AMD.

Portal 2 runs fine, btw.
