Project Cars 2 Announced With Linux Support

By -
tagline-image
Even though Project Cars hasn't been released on Linux, that hasn't stopped the developers claiming the second one will too. Oh and yeah Project Cars 2 is a thing now.

It's good to see Linux/SteamOS being confirmed so early on, but we are more interested to actually see the first game come out as promised.

It's clearly stated here:
QuoteProject CARS 2 will be released for the PC, Sony’s Playstation 4, Microsoft’s Xbox One and Steam OS.

About
With an existing schedule of ON DEMAND content already underway to continue providing Project CARS with fresh new features, updates, and great things to play with throughout the year, Slightly Mad Studios now turns its attention to the future with the announcement of the continuation of the franchise with Project CARS 2. And once again, the sequel will be created, tested, and ultimately approved by you – the gamers - through the WMD Portal crowd-funding platform.

Not a whole lot I can really say about it, since I haven't been able to play the first one due to it not supporting Linux yet. I will have a lot more to say when it has been released, and I imagine it will happen after Steam Machines are released. So I don't know if I should be excited or not about Project Cars 2.

Surely I'm not the only one to wonder if they're still going to port the first part, when there's much more money in making the second one quickly...

I backed the first one when I was still dual booting. As I'm not anymore, I haven't played it for something like a year and am eagerly awaiting the promised Linux release. Any due date ?

That's cool and all, but how about that Linux port of the first game? That would be nice. Hopefully once that materializes (Soon? Please. Pretty please) it will mean that the Linux groundwork is in place for faster (Simultaneous?) Linux delivery of the second game.

Project Cars Enhanced Edition ftw ;)

I love it when devs haven't even fixed their crappy games but hurry to announce a new one. They were talking about adding DX12 support (and possibly Vulcan) to compensate for their awful engine but instead why not squeeze another 50 bucks from gullible customers by releasing a "new" game. This will be as much new game as Windows 7 was a new OS to Vista.

The developers on Project Cars don't really care about Linux, they only care about Steam OS which will come out on November, they have plenty of time.

From what I played on the Windows version, the game is glitchy as heck. It's a GOOD thing they delayed the Linux release.

Yeah, I'm also a bit miffed on them seeming to move off Project Cars 1 before they've finished with it. Hoping this apparent shift of focus won't result in any delays on the Linux port.

If it uses the same Nvidia tools as the first one it will run like utter crap on Linux. AMD or Nvidia cards. Honestly when it was released to such a scandal i wouldn't touch this with Liam's pole.

I fully agree. When developers talk SteamOS, they actually mean the full package: SteamOS+Steam Machines.
Don't even think they care about SteamOS until then, let alone other Linux users.

Hopefully the SteamOS version will work on other Linux distros as well.

If they follow Valve instructions and use the Steam Runtime, it should run on most distros. And since Steam OS is based on Debian, it should at least run without issues on Debian and Ubuntu.

I don't trust Slightly Mad Studios any more. This are the next Dev's in the Linux lie.
