Valve has made some of the Steam Universe hardware available for pre-order and you can even get them early. This includes the Steam Controller and Steam Link.
They also have a swanky new video advertising the controller:

The Steam Link and Steam Controller will be sent out in October if you pre-order, and the quantity will be limited. I was planning to grab one right away, but due to moving home on Monday I will have to wait and pray there's still a few controllers left to grab early.
Personally, I still think the Steam Controller looks fantastic, and I can't wait to grab one to show off to friends (and write it up here).

I ordered the controller. I have my doubt on the Steam Link and I prefer to wait and see. As for the Steam machines, I'll probably order a cheap version and upgrade it myself but I prefer to wait until all the Steam Machines are available (and hoping for a good surprise).

Source - http://www.polygon.com/2015/6/4/8727269/steam-machine-launch-dateI wish the Steam Machines said what kind of GeForce GPU was in those Alienwares. That might be speculation, but I hear somewhere those are GTX 860M. Those are equal to GTX 750.
Of course my current needs can only make use of the Steam Controller & Steam Link - I would be interested in buying a Steam Machine if I had the extra cash, but I couldn't imagine buying an i3 @ 450 knowing how sub par i3's are - but maybe in comparison to XBONE and PS4 it's equivilent if devs optimize right - hard to say.
Alienware's offerings are cheaper than I expected, and that's most likely due to the "comparable to 860M" graphics they all have - which is worse than my 750Ti(!) which is fused onto the motherboard and can't be upgraded.
Most likely none of us enthusiasts will be interested in Steam Machines since we probably built one already or will build/upgrade to one (like me). Steam link as well since I've already got an old PC as a HTPC with Kodi. But most of us are interested in that controller! Can't wait to get my hands on it, not pre-orderable from Australia though =(

I wonder if this joypad will have good support from the current Linux games. A good bunch of the ones I have only work with the Xbox 360 controller.

We'll just have to wait for the first tests later in the year. Personally I'm a bit worried about the lack of a d-pad, but I guess I'll still have my good old Logitech for the games that need one.

I never had any interest in a console and never owned one...but the Steam Machines are tempting me. What's not to like about a console that can run the games I already own and runs an open OS on top of it? That being said, I don't think I am going to preorder. It will make a nice x-mas gift for my wishlist, so hubs can buy this geek girl something nice! :D
