Less than a week after opening up for pre-orders of the first Steam Hardware, 35% of the units have already been sold. This according to an email sent to the press, including VG247 and PC Gamer, who were early to report on the story.

Alienware vs. Syber. Which one will you get?

This is of course not saying much, given that we don't know the number of units available for pre-order. Early adopters will get their units starting 16th October, and it seems likely that Valve, in cooperation with Alienware and Syber, is using this incentive to gauge interest for the hardware prior to launch.

There's also no word on how sales are distributed between the units, so we don't know if it's just the cheap Steam Controller and Steam Link that's boosting the sales, or if the third party units are pulling their weight as well. The Alienware and Syber are a bit pricy compared to other current generation consoles, but with a library of well over 1200 games, they might still be very appealing to a console gamer.

Pre-orders are only available while stock last. Have you put down cash for a piece of Steam hardware yet? Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

In a few weeks, the Steam sales will begin, there will be hundred of thousand of people going trough their website looking for a way to spend their money and they will all see a big ad for Steam hardware. You can be sure that if all of the preorder are not taken by then, after the first day they will be. Last year, sales began June 19th, be sure to get what you want before that.

If you search for "steam summer sale 2015", a bunch of articles are saying the sale starts tomorrow, June 11th.

:)

351mm x 345mm x 98.5mm, I guess that's much for a router.

I pre-ordered one Steam Controller, and that is all. I am in Canada, and our only option is EB Games. I'll buy another Steam Controller (or three) when they're available elsewhere. I just built a machine specifically for gaming, specifically for my living room, during Boxing Day sales, so I won't be buying a Steam Machine for a long, long time (if ever). But when SteamOS is ready to replace my Debian in the living room, I'll jump on that. Needs a bit more work, yet.

Are we at the point where Kodi/XBMC can easily be integrated on SteamOS? I've not really played with it but would like to use it on a proper box like one of these.

Either way this is very encouraging news. Also knowing that pre-ordering is very limited - even in Europe - it's quite clear that you can multiple interest for SM several times.

This also means this will put vendors more at ease and they will more effort in marketing as November closes in. Despite all Steam Machine hate going around (which is very minor and very loud minority) there's still hype going in community.

Sorry about that. I fixed it now.

No love for East Europe, as usual. I just want the controller. Couldn't care less about the overpriced Steam Machines or the Link (which is cool but I just don't need it).

Think I will be securing my Link and Controller next month, just can't resist especially since I can give my impressions here :D
