DiRT Showdown is a highly rated racing game that looks like it's close to a Linux release, exciting times for racing fans!

We don't have many racing games, and it's something I've been missing out on trying (until I found Distance).

It's worth noting that Virtual Programming (The Witcher 2, Bioshock Infinite, Spec Ops: The Line) ported the Mac version, so it's highly likely they are also doing the Linux version.
If it is by VP then it's promising, as their ports have come a long way since the initial TW2 port, but their ports are still far from Aspyr & Feral quality.

About the game
Race, crash and hoon your way through a world tour of motorised mayhem in DiRT Showdown! Crowd atmosphere, social gameplay and accessibility are all ramped up in this turbo- injected shot of driving delirium. Smash down the accelerator and earn the adulation of frenzied crowds at hyper-energised events at iconic locations. Trick, speed and smash your way to victory, then do it again.

You can see the in-progress Linux port activity on SteamDB:

Edit: Also, something that made me smile was this change after I did this article:
QuoteChanged Depots
branches/linux_test/description: hi people of r/linux_gaming ;) › hi Liam ;)

Whoever the porter is, they have a good sense of humour.

Reminder: SteamDB isn't an official site, and is run by volunteers. This means games that show Linux support could end up not coming out for Linux. This is not confirmation, but good supporting evidence that it is being looked into. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

I must be one of very few people who is actually excited to see Showdown come to Steam.

I LOOOOOOOOOVE destruction derby style games. And it's been a long long time since there was a decent one available.

I hated GRID, I can't remember if I ever bought a DIRT game and if I liked it or not. I can't wait for a Burnout Paradise type racing game or Twisted Metal racing game - maybe I should get Distance since it's a little surreal.

My eyes are open, I'm so glad I spent the same price of a PS4 on a GTX 970 - The PC Gaming Age has arrived, and it's awesome :)

QuoteOf all the DiRT titles, this is the one I want to play the least, figures. Oh well, still cool it's possibly coming to Linux.
Same here, but maybe it's worth to say that DIRT 3 runs very well on latest wine versions (> 1.7.37)

how did you install it ? Steam for windows then just wine 1.7.37 ? or are you using Play on Linux ?. Every time I install steam for windows on linux and then install a game it never runs or has an error message ?

doesnt Dirt3 use games for windows live or something you need to register or sign into?

Im running closed source nvidia drivers on a gtx760.

btw, mac and linux are sharing the port data depot, so its probably a eON port, but why did you mentioned mac, since there is not a mac version available on steam?

Why? What makes it different from the other dirt games?
Showdown is the outlier of the DiRT series. The other games in the series are a continuation of Colin McRae Rally, focused on providing a rally racing experience, and, while I wouldn't call them sims, they feature reasonably realistic driving physics. Showdown, on the other hand in essentially Gymkhana the game and features much more arcadey driving physics. If this was literally any other game in the series I would be overjoyed, but I have no interest in Showdown. That's not to say that it's a bad game, it's just not what I'm looking for. I don't much care for Gymkhana.

Burnout Paradise runs extremely well in Wine. Right down to the joypad support.

What about MadOut or Crash Drive 2?

I did it some time ago, but I used PlayOnLinux, when I'm back from work I can check witch libraries I had to install also.
As I said it's not wine 1.7.37 - I've tested DIRT 3 on versions above (1.7.38 and 1.7.41 if I remember correctly).

I have an impression that I read somewhere that it was removed (at least I do not have anything windows live related in game)

If you have dirt 3 complete edition, GFWL has been removed

However in my test recommends 346.72 drivers especially for this game, because 352 series have loss performance however in 352.21 improves a bit but not run equal than 346.72

Wine 1.7.45 + 346.72
