Legend Of Grimrock has sadly been unplayable for anyone on Linux with an Nvidia 900 series chip (like the 970), until now. The developers just put up a Linux beta, and it works.
This is really great news, as it's a solidly built and interesting game.
The developer said this on the Steam forum post:
QuoteApologies for the long delay!
We have just pushed a new Linux beta to Steam that should fix this issue. Could you please test it by opting into the "linux_beta" branch (in Library -> Legend of Grimrock -> Properties -> Betas)?
I hope this finally solves this embarrassingly long standing issue.
It may have taken them a while, but they didn't leave us out in the cold. That's the main point, they did work at it, and they did fix it. This has restored my faith in Almost Human Games.
The main problem is this:
QuoteThe issue was caused by a buffer overflow bug, like you described earlier. I guess the real issue is that we are a very tiny team (just 1 programmer) with practically no Linux experience and trying to juggle with multiple projects and platforms at the same time (win, mac, linux, ios). Again apologies for taking so long to fix this.
I had no idea Almost Human Games was one programmer, so it makes sense a bug affecting only the latest generation Nvidia cards would be put on the backburner.
Check out Legend of Grimrock on Steam, or GOG.com. The Beta is only on Steam though, so hopefully when enough people confirm the fix works, they might update other stores too.

Nice, I'm still stuck on the final boss, so now I should really get back to it. Good to see they are still supporting the Linux version.
I hope they'll reconsider a Linux port of Legend of Grimrock II at some point.

"trying to juggle with multiple projects and platforms" - LoG2 coming to Linux? :-)

I am so glad that this is finally fixed so that I can continue playing. Legend of Grimrock is far too nice of a game to not finish. Very surprising to find out that Almost Human only has a single programmer, though. Hopefully Legend of Grimrock 2 makes it to Linux someday as well.

Quotea buffer overflow bug, like you described earlierMay be a reasonable thing to quote that post describing the bug as well.

In case anyone here has the GOG version, we've already made contact with Almost Human and they reassured us that once they are happy with the beta Linux update they will update the GOG builds as well :)

It worked for me! Was really pleasantly surprised by this news. I had never gotten the chance to play the game at all.

Edit: JudasIscariot responded after I sent them a private message. Find the response below.
Quoting: JudasIscariotHi, it's a bit too early in Galaxy's development cycle for me to comment on such things. Your best bet would be to follow the official thread on the GOG forums: https://www.gog.com/forum/general/gog_galaxy_beta_2
Also, i am not involved with Galaxy's development so there's another reason why I refrain on commenting on whether a feature will be included or not.
Sorry :(
