Okhlos was emailed in by the developer, and the premise of controlling an angry greek mob was too good to pass up.

About the game (Official)
Okhlos is a roguelike action game in which you control an angry mob of ancient Greeks who have set out to overthrow the Olympian Gods and destroy everything and everyone that stands in their way! It blends 16-bit styled pixel art characters with fully interactive 3D environments and features procedurally generated cities to rampage through. There are hundreds of unique characters that can join your mob!

Some thoughts
I was able to get my hands on a build after speaking over email with the developer, and after an initial hiccup with it not working, a new working build was sent over.

Here’s something to instantly love about it, it picked up my Logitech F310 gamepad and instantly worked, hazza! It did have a few buttons incorrectly set, but even more to my surprise is that their options allowed me to change that perfectly well. It feels really great with a gamepad, but it feels equally as good with a mouse and keyboard.

It’s a rather unique game, with the graphical style and gameplay not resembling much else I’ve ever played. I wasn’t initially sold on the flat style of the characters, but it actually works really well and I’ve grown to love it. Especially when there’s tons of you running around, I find the art style of the characters actually helps.

You control your main character with the left stick, and direct your angry mob with your right stick. It sort-of resembles a twin stick shooter, but it still has its own very unique flavour of it.

Seeing a 50 strong mob of people and animals is amusing, as you tear through towns collecting more people for your cause, and casually smashing up fruit stands.

It really does get quite frantic when you see more of the massive enemies, the flying enemies swooping down and your massive mob flailing about the screen, I simply love it.

People liked the look of it so much, it was greenlit by Valve in six days. That’s pretty insane, and I imagine the developers are rather happy about this.

I will be keeping an enthusiastic eye on this one.

You can even pre-order it right now if you wish. We never recommend it, but the Linux version exists and works reasonably well already.

I played this at Expo EVA in Buenos Aires, it was one of the most popular games being showed there at the time and looked pretty good!
