The game has already been funded on Kickstarter, it has been approved through Steam's greenlight system and now the Demo is available for all.
About the game
THROUGH THE WOODS is a third-person psychological horror game set in a forest on the western coast of Norway about a mother and her missing son. Through dynamic narration, you play the mother's re-telling of the events surrounding her son's disappearance in a setting inspired by Norse mythology and Norwegian folk tales.
The interrogation that covers the mother's tale is never seen, only heard, as the actions unfolding on the screen have already happened. You control the past, shaping the story of the present.
My thoughts
I'm really crap at horror games, but Through the Woods already looks like it's going to be one I have to play through. As a parent the idea of a missing child is scary, so this will probably relate to any parents following us.
The atmosphere is just brilliant, and the voice acting is perfectly suited to it too.
I highly recommend giving the demo a go. It's going to be one I'm going to have to cover more in depth at release that's for sure. It doesn't release until next year, so we have a while to wait.

Is this a jump scare game? I hope it's not a jump scare game. I hope it's more an atmospheric and mind**** type horror game. I might as well check the demo out, thanks for the heads up.

It's more like "Cry of Fear".

Works and looks pretty good. Only the controller support has some issues (triggers can't be used for running or crouching).

The video is basically the whole (very short ) demo, so if you like to discover it for yourself, don't watch.

Ontopic: Wow, thanks for pointing this one out! I will definitely buy this one. My favorite thing about this game is that your 'eyes' adjust when you switch the flashlight on or off, making the surroundings much more visible with the flashlight off.

It certainly looks nice, the graphics are damn near AAA level. As for gameplay, I'm not sure what to think. I mean there's a lot of walking then you run for a bit and that's all there really is to it. It's only a short demo, so hopefully there will be a lot more to the game than that. Do I get to hunt for clues? Following the reflectors isn't exactly detective work. Can I sneak around if I turn my flashlight off? Is there a sanity mechanic like in Amnesia? What is there to do besides walking through a forest and running when danger approaches? Are there puzzles? Hopefully there are more runes and wall paintings to find and maybe some way to try to piece together their meaning. I mean, walking alone through a forest at night is legitimately tense on its own since you never know what manner of nocturnal wildlife you may happen upon, I speak from experience here. I just hope there will be a lot more to the game than what was in the demo. At the same time, I wasn't turned off by the demo either. I'm by no means sold on the game, but I am curious to find out more.

In this bit, no.
Spoiler, click me
I tried to get a better view of the beast, and I was spotted at the same spot regardless of using flashlight or not.

great demo, runs mostly fine, except with few drops here and there. creepy as hell, voice acting is top tier.
can't wait to get my hands on the full version
