Good news folks, as another Feral Interactive port is coming very soon. Company of Heroes 2 will launch on our beloved platform on the 27th of August. The news just came out of the blue in a tweet, so here's the confirmation below:
Next week can't come soon enough, and it's great to see Feral step up their game and deliver another port so quickly!
It seems that AMD isn't supported again, as their system requirements only mentions Nvidia and Intel Iris Pro.

I don't mean to oppose you or anything but could you provide any examples of game ports where the Linux port performs significantly (not few percent points that are well within margin of influence of different background system load) better than on Windows?
As far as I know, lower Linux performance is to some degree inherent to the lower quality drivers (including the Nvidia binary ones) as well as to quirks of OpenGL itself. This all will hopefully be remedied by VULKAN but for now I feel like it's a tad unfair to blame game porters for Linux performance being somewhat worse (of course, significant performance drop or any instability shouldn't be excused).

Perhaps it's more the inherent nature of porting.To be fair, that Left 4 Dead 2 test is three-years old now and not really relevant any more since both OpenGL and DirectX have improved since then.
But good call on Victor Vran. It shows that games on Linux don't have to lag behind their Windows counterparts. X-Plane 10 is another case study which proves that OpenGL is no slouch on cross platform games. Of course then we have Day 1 Linux releases like Cities Skylines which lag significantly behind Windows for some inexplicable reason.
So who knows.

Eventhough it breaks my heart a lot, I can understand the difficulty to make a crossplatform multiplayer release. As the developers stated on Reddit, if the netcode of the game uses OS specific libraries and rules; then it is extremely hard to provide crossplatform multiplayer support. Besides, there is an already established and active player base of Company of Heroes 2; it would be pretty risky to replace the gamecode of the Windows builds. I got it, fine. What I cannot get is the reason behind Linux vs Linux and Mac vs Mac multiplayer limitation. I mean, since both builds were handled by Feral, why did they not use same or Linux/Mac compatible middleware for multiplayer? That is a big shame...

Blame AMD for their crap drivers.115 games in my Linux/SteamOS library, 112 out of 115 just working fine, 3 not even start, or constantly crashing after the main menu. This three are Pixel Piracy, Dying Light, and SoM, convince me about crappy drivers.

That's the one, single isolated example we got, and it's a question of a mere few percentages difference on a game with a very high framerate.
I mean, sure, we got that one example early on and it is of course a nice glimpse of what might be to come, but at this point in time it's an exception and not one I feel is fair to compare everything else against.

Well, things won't change immediately regarding good ports on pair with Windows, Linux still needs masses to come and every port is now welcome. Even Mac which has significantly more users is having a shitty ports... I guess AMD is learning on tough lessons.
I'm just hoping that Steam OS is going to be a huge success, until then, we are small and insignificant for a big players to take us seriously.

Personally, i'm just happy we get these games at all.
As long as they run, and run well, I don't really care how they run on Windows, since I don't use it.
The average Windows gamer won't care either, and that is what SteamOS is targetting, advanced users will build themselves a rig and/or stick with Windows.

The fact that 100% of your games don't work without issue can be blamed on AMD's poor driver support. And based on what I've seen in various Steam forums, I think you're lucky that only 3 games out of 115 are giving you issues.Blame AMD for their crap drivers.115 games in my Linux/SteamOS library, 112 out of 115 just working fine, 3 not even start, or constantly crashing after the main menu. It's worth noting I am pretty sure two of those games (Dying Light and Mordor) are the only major ones I know that use OpenGL 4.2 or later (I could be wrong), Mordor actually uses up to 4.4 if available. Most Linux games released are less complex and usually use OpenGL 3 paths which is a lot older and more reliable on AMD.
The newer more complex features are the ones that are more likely to run into performance and driver bugs as they haven't been used as much. That is a slightly simplistic explanation but should help give a little insight into why some games have more issues with AMD drivers than others.
AMD are working hard on updates (and we have been giving them feedback to help as much as we can) so as the drivers improve you should see games that were not previously supported/working start to gain support/work again.

Been looking forward to this port for a while! I still need to beat the first one, but it was enjoyable with the amount that I played of it.
As far as Shadow of Mordor goes, I completed the game from start to finish on Linux (even did almost 100% of the quests, just need to finish off a few of the outcast rescues).
Only 'bug' I think I found is that the cut scenes for the outcast rescues I think may have been cut short, but I'm not sure. They would start to pan around and show a captive tied up, and some would have some dialog that'd start, but then it'd cut short and start the mission. Is this a bug, or just some random dialog the Orcs usually have?
Ha, I never could run it smoothly on Ultra though, granted I only have a 4GB 980GTX, and was running it in 2560x1080.
