Good news folks, as another Feral Interactive port is coming very soon. Company of Heroes 2 will launch on our beloved platform on the 27th of August. The news just came out of the blue in a tweet, so here's the confirmation below:

Mac & Linux ready their armies: Company of Heroes 2 will arrive Aug 27 on Steam and soon after on MAS. Minisite: http://t.co/VUysnoVnR6

Next week can't come soon enough, and it's great to see Feral step up their game and deliver another port so quickly!

It seems that AMD isn't supported again, as their system requirements only mentions Nvidia and Intel Iris Pro.

About the game (Official)
Direct your troops through fast-paced real-time battles in the brutal fight to turn the tide of World War II. From the desperate defence of Stalingrad to victory in Berlin, you must defeat a tenacious enemy and the deadly cold of the Russian winter.

Objective-based missions challenge you to maneuver soldiers, guns, and tanks across feature-rich environments to scope out the battlefield, secure targets and destroy enemies. Navigate the hazardous terrain, take advantage of cover and overcome the freezing temperatures and treacherous ice that can make the difference between crushing defeat and hard-won victory.

Features
- Engage in exhilarating tactical combat as you co-ordinate infantry, vehicles and artillery units in crucial real-time battles.
- Take the fight to the Eastern Front of World War II as you repel the enemy in this pivotal episode of 20th century history.
- Use the environment to your advantage as you position your troops behind cover and force your enemies into retreat as you advance from the icy Russian Steppe to the rubble-strewn streets of Berlin.
- Take command of historically-accurate units: tanks, artillery and soldiers, to recreate decisive Eastern Front battles in brilliant detail.
- Choose to command the Wehrmacht or the Red Army in Theater of War missions, a series of one-off scenarios, battles and challenges set on an unrivalled selection of maps.

System requirements
Minimum Requirements
OS: Ubuntu 14.04 (64bit) or SteamOS
Processor: 2.6 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Hard Disk: 35GB
Graphics: 1GB*
Input: Keyboard & Mouse

Recommended Requirements
Processor: 3.4 GHz
RAM: 8GB**
Graphics: 4GB

*Requires an Intel Iris Pro graphics card or an NVIDIA 600 series graphics card or better.

**NVIDIA 760 series card or better with driver version 352.21 or later.

Check the Feral Interactive minisite for CoH2. You can also find it on Steam, but don't order it until the Linux version is out! Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

YESS!! Finally :)

I've got it already so I can't wait to download it.

So far I'am waiting for Saints Row 4, Payday 2 (and hopefully by someone) Marvel Heroes :)

Quoting: GuestXCOM was ok, but Shadow of Mordor wasn't exactly the greatest.

I feel like every claim about how good or bad a port or porter is should be suffixed with "for me" or "on my system", because people have different experiences.

Shadow of Mordor runs very well for me, for example - the benchmark never dips below 60fps.

Lol, nope. This is the worst porter ever.

I haven't seen any but great ports from Feral, mind elaborating on what makes you say that?

There aren't many Feral ports for Linux yet really, so it's too early to tell how good/bad they are. I think XCOM was ok, but Shadow of Mordor wasn't exactly the greatest.
So we'll see where this one goes. I've been interested in this game for a while, and might pick it up on the next round of sales now (assuming the next round of sales are after 27th of August, of course).

Even then you can't call feral the worst porter ever. There are much worse porter companies to get this title.

This is awesome! Company of Heroes 2 is my favorite RTS of all time. (Played the game in Windows for some 500+ hours)

The only thing i'm worried about are updates and cross platform multiplayer. Relic, the developer of Company of Heroes 2, updates the game frequently and i'm worried that the Mac/Linux-version will not get updates until a couple of weeks after the Windows-version. If that is the case i will not be able to play the linux-version with my friends who run the Windows-version.

Aside from that i'm really glad Feral is porting it, it's a great RTS.

I'd definitely like to see proof of that, along with your specs, posted on the forum.

Regarding Feral's status as a good/bad porter, as you said, it's all relative. Some people are satisfied with performance lower than they'd get on Windows. Others aren't. And obviously, Nvidia users will be happier with them than AMD. It's all about your perspective and your expectations.

I have it confirmed from their PR that multiplayer is Linux-Linux only, so not cross platform online.

Ok, that's a bit unfortunate. Not even Mac/Linux multiplayer? I guess that is one way of solving update-delays but it is in my opinion not a very good one. Kinda wish Relic had ported the game instead, but a Linux-release is better than no Linux release and i'm happy for those who can play Linux-Linux multiplayer.

What about the DLCs, will they be supported as well?

I don't mean to oppose you or anything but could you provide any examples of game ports where the Linux port performs significantly (not few percent points that are well within margin of influence of different background system load) better than on Windows?

As far as I know, lower Linux performance is to some degree inherent to the lower quality drivers (including the Nvidia binary ones) as well as to quirks of OpenGL itself. This all will hopefully be remedied by VULKAN but for now I feel like it's a tad unfair to blame game porters for Linux performance being somewhat worse (of course, significant performance drop or any instability shouldn't be excused).

with the exception of a dip or two to 50 I can vouch that's what I get with a 970 and a intel i5 3570

shadow of mordor is a really great port, and everyone should buy it as it's a great game to boot.
