DiRT Showdown For Linux Delayed For Polishing

Sorry folks, blame me for this one. DiRT Showdown has been delayed after some crash bugs I uncovered and reported to the developers.

I think it's a great game, and the performance now I fixed the benchmarks is great (really it is), but the stability has been a problem. It was going to release for Linux on Monday the 10th of August, but that will be delayed so I can work with the developer to get the issues ironed out.

Big thank you to Virtual Programming for allowing me to test and help out here, as hopefully everyone can reap the benefits from it. I'm very much liking this change of attitude from VP, and can't wait to see DiRT Showdown run smooth as silk.

You can find DiRT Showdown on Steam, but if you want to support the porter please wait until release. Article taken from GamingOnLinux.com.

DAM YOU LIAM!

But seriously this is good, glad you found them and are helping towards making this game better! :)

not sure what to say. since this is no native port... they should work on a linux-release first, I imagine it is easier to port linux games to windows than the other way round - and developing under linux is surely 250% faster than with windows. At least from my experience, ... just can't work with that OS as smoothly as with the nerd penguin.

slight delay to ensure a flawless launch -> win! =)

I have mixed feelings I must say. The fact that they want to fix crashes is great. But I don't get one thing - didn't they have crashes during their test phase? Or did they ignore them? Or do they treat you as first class citizen and try to make you happy because of the fact that you have popular page about Linux gaming?

Thanks Liam - that is some great attitude from both you and VP. Kudos to you

I doubt they ignored the bugs. Most likely they've tested the game in house on a very limited set of HW/SW configurations where those bugs weren't triggered.
Once a game is released it will have to face a myriad of setups and probably other bugs will emerge.

What they should do is put up a test branch and let us test the game before the official release.
This is especially true for their (VP) ports with their controversial wrapper.

The easiest way to get people to test the game was to announce it on steam .
Open a new discussion about the upcoming beta - pin it and let people test it and report bugs...

However that has a small chance to cause more troubles as may some users go berserk and start whining and cursing over the steam forums about its performance. That for sure would cause a lot of trouble to Virtual Programming , Maybe thats why they choose a few people to test the game.

I hope it does not get delayed for too long.
