It recently blasted through Kickstarter smashing its goal and it has been greenlit for Steam as well, so look out for it!
It’s a trading card game that allows you to have decks of cards, and battle them against AI or online players. The current version is limited, but they will be expanding it soon to include playing against friends. Their last update noted this was already over halfway done, and that was nearer the start of August.
The hook is that gameplay is simultaneous as you take your turns, so there’s not a lot of waiting around for people to do their thing. It works quite well, but until you've played a few turns it can be a little intimidating.
It makes games become quite interesting, as you could wait to see what your opponent places down each turn, or place your cards first. If you have a card that instantly deals damage available, you may want to wait for them to place some attacking cards down. Lots of little things like that are making me fall in love with it.
The good thing is that it’s proving popular, as every time I tried to play online it found a game in 1-2 seconds.
The game is going to be free to play, but don’t let that fool you. It’s much like a real card game, you can pay for extra cards, and that’s fine by me. It’s just bringing card games into the virtual world. It’s the kind of in-game purchases I'm okay with, as the extra cards won’t necessarily give you an advantage.
I'm liking it so much I am currently hovering over the By Now button to get some extra kit + the Beta when it arrives. I assume when they reach beta status the free alpha won’t be available, and I feel like I want to keep playing this.

So another "pay to be competitive" if not outright pay-to-win card game? I wonder if they'll have anything in place to make it worth the trouble of casual players, or ones who aren't heavy spenders?

I really hope there are going to be random drops after matches or a similar way to gain new cards without paying a ton of money to be competitive. I'm also not really a person that spends a whole lot of money on F2P stuff and making people suffer outright because of something like that doesn't sound appealing.

Looks like a total copy of blizzard's game. But well, I guess blizzard didn't invent it either

Interesting. I'd love to see a good TCG on Linux. I kept waiting for Infinity Wars to deliver on their Linux version that's constantly "something they plan to add in the future", but I'm skeptical that will ever happen. As with any F2P game, it will come down to how fair their microtransaction model is. If the model is fair and the game is fully playable and you won't be at a big disadvantage if you don't drop down money or foced to do insane amounts of grinding just to get a few booster packs, then I'll gladly toss them some some money, providing it;s a fun game. If the microtransaction model is aggressive then they'll never see a penny from me. Also, as with any game that's alpha/beta/early access, I won't be touching it until it fully releases.

personally i've never seen many card games that aren't some sort of pay-to-gain parts. MTG being one of the most expensive on the planet to keep up with. I played MTG for a few years and have sank a lot of money into trying to keep up with that game. you can easily spend $500 or more annually on MTG to maintain a competitive deck. so with the advent of games like Hearthstone this is a very welcomed sight. I've only spent $40 per expansion in Hearthstone to maintain a decently competitive deck, because of arena it makes playing that game so much less expensive.
Nova Blitz supports Linux from the start, that to me is a huge win. and worth showing blizzard what's up just by supporting these guys. As long as the game goes with a similar format of Hearthstone so you don't have to fork out a lot to get into the game. Plus maintaining the dynamic of not allowing "power creep" to run rampant like many games tend to do.

I'm a long time player of Shadow Era TCG, which is the only reason why I still keep Wine on my box. In is built in Unity, but devs straight out refuse to offer Linux client feeling it's too much trouble to support for too few players.
This might be interesting when completed, though I doubt I'm going to like the simultaneous turns and forced quick playing, that kind of thing makes sense only if the game is primarily for the mobile platform.
But we definitely need more TCGs on Linux. Here's hoping that someone some day will port Android Netrunner to a digital form.

Too bad we haven't seen that rumored Linux release from Blizzard... HS seemed like it was in the perfect position to be that game. I'll check this one out...

I've always wanted an online TCG where all cards owned by all players had to be earned through gameplay.
I know paying for cards has always been around in these games, so it's normal. But I just think the genre is really missing out by not having anything like that.

I won't go back! You can't make me! ... Pokemon and then Yu-Gi-Oh! cards were my collecting addiction as a kid and I went to several tournaments and loved it all... but I'll be damned if I let myself dump all my money into Trading Cards again.
